Indian national team spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has reportedly agreed upon terms to pay only 10 per cent of his estimated net worth as alimony to his estranged wife, Dhanashree Verma. Chahal is expected to pay INR 4.75 crores to Verma, amid divorce buzz.

Yuzvendra Chahal had tied the knot with Youtuber and choreographer Dhanashree Verma, back in December 2020. However, their marriage did not last long, and the couple have been living separately for more than two years now. Chahal and his estranged wife filed for divorce on 5 February, 2025, ending speculations, that had emerged after the couple stopped sharing social media posts together.

Chahal and his Dhanashree Verma’s divorce case has been taken up by the Bandra Family Court, which is expected to announce its decision on March 20. It was after the Bombay High Court directed the Bandra Magistrate Court to speed up the process, owing to the 34-year-old spinner’s Indian Premier League commitments. Chahal will feature for the Punjab Kings in the upcoming 2025 IPL edition.

The family court had initially refused to overlook the six-month cooling-off period, that most couples have to go through, before getting divorced. However, Chahal and his estranged wife have been living apart since June 2022, a fact that the higher court pointed out to. The high court also cited the player’s efforts to fulfill the mutual divorce terms, and consequently urged the family court to grant the divorce.

Yuzvendra Chahal has been ordered to pay INR 4.75 crores as alimony to Dhanashree Verma. The spinner is said to have already paid half of the amount. The alimony paid to Verma is just 10 percent of Chahal’s net worth, which is estimated to be around INR 45 crores. There were rumors of the YouTuber having demanded INR 60 crores as alimony, something that was later denied by Dhanashree Verma’s family.

Moreover, it is also quite low compared to the INR 18 crores that Punjab Kings spent, on buying the leg-spinner at the 2025 IPL Mega Auction. The second installment of Dhanashree Verma’s alimony would only be paid after the divorce is granted. Yuzvendra Chahal’s divorce will surely mean the end of another famous cricket couple, following in the footsteps of Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya.

Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal is rumored to have been dating another woman. The 34-year-old cricketer was spotted alongside RJ Mahvash in the stands of the Dubai International Stadium, during India’s Champions Trophy final against New Zealand.

Shreyas Iyer and Yuzvendra Chahal key to Punjab Kings’ maiden IPL title hunt

Punjab Kings have set their eyes on winning the Indian Premier League title for the first time in their 18-year-old history. Since the beginning of the tournament in 2008, Punjab have only managed to make it to the IPL final once, in 2014, where they fell short against KKR.

Apart from their 2014 final appearance, the team made it to the play-offs just once, in 2008. Barring these two years, Punjab have only finished in the bottom half of the table, despite spending hugely on building a formidable squad. However, the 2025 IPL edition is expected to be a different one. Under new coach, Ricky Ponting, the team has added several new faces, in pursuit of the title.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer, who was bought at a whopping price of INR 26.75 crores at the IPL Mega Auction, is expected to lead the team’s batting. Punjab Kings will be heavily relying on the 30-year-old’s leadership abilities, after having guided KKR to the IPL title last season. Punjab have also added IPL’s all-time highest wicket-taker Yuzvendra Chahal to their lineup, ahead of the new season.
