The floodgates have opened in San Francisco. After giving quarterback Brock Purdy an extension, the 49ers agreed to a three-year, $63 million deal—$53 million guaranteed—with linebacker Fred Warner.
The new deal means Warner became the highest-paid linebacker in NFL history. This deal happened right after the 49ers gave Purdy a generous upgrade last week. Purdy signed a five-year, $265 million contract, entering the list as one of the highest-paid quarterbacks ever.
Before Purdy, the Niners locked down veteran tight end George Kittle to a four-year, $76.4 million contract extension with $40 million guaranteed.
Back in April, 49ers Webzone’s David Bonilla spoke with Warner about his impending contract extension. The 28-year-old replied that he was satisfied with how much he was already earning.
I get paid plenty already. But listen, that whole part of it, I know my agent, and the team, and all that, that’ll all handle itself out. I’m just, obviously, ready to just go to work and be the best version of myself.

This was the second time the 49ers extended Fred Warner’s stay in the Bay Area. Previously, the 2018 third-round pick bagged a five-year extension with the 49ers worth $95 million, along with a $40.5 million guaranteed deal in 2021.

The 49ers entered the 2025 offseason with a generous $56 million, thanks to an NFL high of $50.96 million in carryover space from 2024. The Niners still possess $43.244 million in cap space despite extending Warner. They will have plenty of it during the regular season, which is a massive relief.
Fred Warner’s agent Justin Schulman of Athletes First and 49ers officials have been quietly working on this deal for the past few months behind the scenes. The final touches were put on the deal Monday.

Like the #Ravens and Henry, go ahead and get the deal done to allow players and organization to keep off-season momentum. And this deal for the #49ers and Warner is the perfect example of that. https://t.co/6aONbw05p1

Last season was a complete mess. Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers finished bottom of the NFC West with a 6-11 record. However, Warner was exceptional on the defense. He recorded 98 solo tackles (10th best in the league), 35 assisted tackles, one sack, and 4 forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus graded Warner 89.2 for his performances.

On the other hand, Brock Purdy needs to rediscover his 2023 form. He nearly led the 49ers to a Super Bowl win and a high finish in the league MVP category. The QB took a nosedive in 2024, completing 3,864 yards and 20 touchdowns last season compared to 4,280 passing yards and 31 touchdowns the year before.
