49ers tight end George Kittle, like millions of other hockey fans, had eagerly been waiting for the highly anticipated Four Nations Championship clash between the USA and Canada at the Bell Centre in Montreal but was met with an unusual sight. The US National Anthem was mercilessly booed by the spectators inside the dome.
To make matters worse, three fights broke out one after the other. Just two seconds in, USA’s Matthew Tkachuk and Canada’s Brandon Hagel dropped their gloves to begin a heated fistfight.
Matthew’s brother Brady Tkachuk sought out Sam Bennett in the red jersey but unlike his older brother, Brady came out victorious in the bout. After a short while, Colton Parayko and JT Miller exchanged a couple of blows.
Both teams had a point to prove because the nation’s pride was on the line. However, Team USA’s Jake Guentzel scored two, and Dylan Larkin notched one to secure a 3-1 victory against Team Canada. The victory also ended the Canadians’ 26-game-long winning streak.
George Kittle, at full-time, shared a video message on Instagram. He was unhappy with the Canadian fans booing the national anthem. “Don’t boo the anthem! USA 3-1.”

Why did the Canadians boo the USA National anthem?
Even though Kittle found the Canadians booing the American national anthem disrespectful and uncalled for, the people north of the border have valid reasons to act this way. The matter is purely political.

On February 2, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order that issued a 25% increase in tariffs on goods entering the United States from Canada and Mexico. Trump wasn’t finished; he threatened to annex Canada, making it their 51st state unless Greenland joined first.
Several Canada-based teams play in the National Hockey League. Ever since Trump’s declaration, whenever teams from the US travel to places like Montreal, the locals began booing the National anthem as a form of protest.

George Kittle supported Filip Forsberg representing Sweden
Kittle and Sweden’s Filip Forsberg are good friends along with their wives, Clair and Erin Alvey. Forsberg invited George and Clair to Montreal to watch Sweden’s game.
The 2x All-Pro athlete did not think twice and flew to Canada to watch their game. Kittle wore the traditional yellow jersey with the iconic three crows emblem at the front and Forsberg’s name and No. 9 on the back. In addition, he donned a hat featuring the Swedish flag and fake yellow and blue hair.
