When De’Vondre Campbell walked off the field in their loss to the Los Angeles Rams, he undermined the San Francisco 49ers. That move not only impacted the game to some degree, but also brought negativity to the locker room. Now GM John Lynch has decided to make something out of it.
Before the 49ers arrived at their decision, many speculated that the linebacker might already be packing his bags. That notion gained steam when Campbell’s teammates suggested he should not be a part of that locker room.
But the 49ers took more than 24 hours to arrive at a decision. Where some analysts felt he should have been cut even before reaching the locker room, it seems Lynch decided to mull over the best possible way to deal with it.
We have suspended De’Vondre Campbell Sr. for three games due to conduct detrimental to the team. We will have no further comment on the matter.

This method of discipline might surprise some, but GM John Lynch has made Campbell pay in the best way possible. Cutting him would have made him be available for another franchise to pick him up. That way, the player in question could have had a position to thrive.

But by suspending De’Vondre Campbell, John Lynch is not giving him that opportunity. Rather, he is making him pay for his conduct in kind. Not only will he lose game checks, but he will lose any chance of signing with another team. But more importantly, it will keep him away from the locker room.

De’Vondre Campbell was a starter for most of his career in the NFL. But when signing with the San Francisco 49ers, there was no question he would be a backup once Dre Greenlaw was healthy.
With him protesting it in his own way, fans feel he has lost the chance to continue playing for the 49ers, and also for other teams.
