Brock Purdy was part of the Iowa State Cyclones for four seasons before making the jump to the NFL to play for the San Francisco 49ers in 2022. That doesn’t mean he forgot his alma mater; rather, it’s the opposite, as a recent clip proved.

The Cyclones on Saturday defeated in-state rivals the Iowa Hawkeyes by a single point. Back-to-back field goals—46 yards and 52 yards—from the kicker Kyle Konrardy did the job in the end.

Brock Purdy, who will face the New York Jets on Monday, watched the game from his home with his wife Jenna Brandt Purdy. A short clip of the final moments of the game was uploaded by Jenna on Instagram.

The video showed Purdy, similar to an avid football fan, standing right in front of the television as Konrardy measured his kick. As soon as the ball went through the goalpost, the 49ers’ quarterback punched the air in excitement as the Cyclones won their second straight game.

Brock Purdy won his bet against George Kittle as Cyclones won

Before the game at the Kinnick Stadium, Purdy and 49ers All-Pro tight end George Kittle made a bet, which both refrained from revealing. But why would they do that?

Betting is a common pastime among friends, but why specifically, Kittle? That’s because the multiple-time Pro Bowler played college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes. One can be pretty sure Purdy must have rubbed the win in his face later on.

In September last year, Kittle’s Hawkeyes beat the Cyclones 20-13, ending their season as the #20th best team in the country. As a punishment, Purdy wore a big Hawkeye mascot head during a 49ers’ presser. Now it’s Purdy’s turn for the revenge.

Brock Purdy, in his four seasons with the Iowa Cyclones, had a 29-17 record. He completed 993 passes for 12, 170 passing yards, 81 passing touchdowns, and 33 interceptions. Additionally, he rushed 365 times with the ball for 1177 yards and scored 19 touchdowns. The 49ers selected him as the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He became the Niners #1 choice after former quarterbacks, Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance fell out of favor. Purdy grasped the chance with both hands, and so far he led the Bay Area franchise to consecutive NFC title games, winning one and a Super Bowl appearance, which they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in February.
