Ahead of the coming 2024 season, the San Francisco 49ers came across disheartening news as their wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was seriously wounded after getting shot on Saturday. But the most shocking part of the incident was discovered this Sunday as the police identified a 17-year-old boy as a suspect.

While walking near Union Square at around 3:30 in the afternoon, Pearsall met with an unfortunate incident as an armed individual tried to rob him, leading to a physical struggle with many shots fired that wounded the wideout. San Francisco Police Chief William Scott revealed that the suspect had been arrested at the scene of the crime as he was trying to run away.

The struggle between Mr. Pearsall and the suspect ensued, and gunfire from the suspect's gun struck both Mr. Pearsall and the subject. This kind of violence is simply unacceptable in our city.
William Scott said in a statement

The suspect was later identified as a 17-year-old boy from Tracy, California, though his name hasn’t been released yet. Being a minor, he will be charged in juvenile court as the district attorney’s office confirmed.

In the official statement, the San Francisco police also shared that the suspect acted independently and did not specifically target the wide receiver because of his high status as an NFL player. The investigation is ongoing and highly prioritized by the police as Scott shared.

During the struggle of the attempted robbery, Pearsall sustained a wound to his chest and was in critical condition when he was admitted. Although his condition remains stable, he has been stabilized now as the Niners said in their official statement.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed also confirmed that the former Arizona State product’s condition is stable while Police Chiefs Scott reported that he is even talking. In the two rounds of shots fired at the incident, the suspect also got injured and was hospitalized after being arrested.
