The two-time Super Bowl defending champions are leading the league with an undefeated six-game winning record following the 28-18 victory against the San Francisco 49ers. However, for the latter, it wasn’t just a loss in the game. They also suffered a significant setback by losing another key player, Trent Williams.
Late in the fourth quarter, the left tackle was ejected after taking a swing at the opposing safety Bryan Cook, resulting in a scuffle between the two. When the Kansas City Chiefs safety made a move toward Williams’ helmet, he hopped up from the ground and responded by attacking Cook’s facemask with a punch.
Given that the game had 3:30 minutes left when this happened, the officials drew a flag and dismissed Williams from the game. Surprisingly, no penalty was imposed on Cook. The NFL official ejected the veteran lineman for unsportsmanlike conduct of a “prohibited act,” according to the NFL’s rulebook.

While walking to the locker room, Williams stopped by near a fan asking for his autograph and he happily did it. Judging from his demeanor, he didn’t seem too upset with the official’s ruling, which even went for review. They also lost star wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk (knee injury) and Deebo Samuel (illness), besides Williams.
There was another incident from the game between 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir and Chiefs wide receiver Skyy Moore. It happened after an 18-yard touchdown by wide receiver Mecole Hardman, as the two started shoving each other in the fourth quarter.
Trent Williams’ speculated fine for punching Chiefs’ Bryan Cook
Even though the NFL officials didn’t impose any penalty on the Chiefs’ safety, which could be because they didn’t catch his action that provoked the 11-time Pro Bowler, the two are expected to face suspension in Week 8. In the meantime, Williams will be fined $39,501 for his unsportsmanlike conduct of punching Cook.
Under the NFL rulebook for the protection and respect of players on the field, Williams’ prohibited act qualifies for flagrant personal fouls. However, the ruling about the fine hasn’t been declared officially, leaving everyone to speculate about their decision involving Cook’s actions.
This was the veteran lineman’s second ejection in his career, as he was previously ejected from the NFC Championship Game 2023 between the 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles, which also ended with the latter’s victory and advancing to the Super Bowl against the Chiefs.
