Mark Cuban

Mark Cuban is best known as a former majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks and as a shark on Shark Tank. The Broadcast.com founder made his money and his name by selling his company to Yahoo before the dot-com bubble burst. He used his newfound wealth to fulfil his longtime dream of owning his own major league sports team. After over two decades of distinguished ownership, Cuban is now concentrating on other ventures as well.

The 66-year-old from Pittsburgh decided to try and do his part in helping Americans with healthcare. Due to various reasons, the cost of drugs in the USA is exhorbtitantly high. Cuban wanted to fix the market by flooding it with generic drugs. Cost Plus Drugs (officially Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company) was launched in January 2022 to address high prescription drug prices. The company claims to have the cheapest prices for many drugs, including cancer medication.

A major differentiator that sets Cost Plus Drugs apart is that the firm does not work with medical insurers. Instead, it offers direct-to-consumer prices that are often lower than insurer-provided pricing. Cost Plus Drugs operates on a transparent pricing model. They offer the medication by charging a 15% markup on the manufacturing price, $3 as a pharmacy fee and shipping costs. Their focus on generics often helps patients save significant amounts in costs.

This work is clearly something that the Dallas Mavericks co-owner takes humanitarian pride and joy in. Cuban has faced sustained vitriol from conservatives on social media due to his politics. His response to those fiery words about politics is usually mild-mannered. But he refuses to take baseless critique of Cost Plus lying down. His latest faceoff on NBA Twitter with regards to this initiative is something to note.

Accosted by a conservative commentator about Cost Plus using imported drugs to provide medical solutions, Cuban wasted no time and energy in issuing a befitting response to the accusations of leaching off ordinary American’s hard-earned money.

You probably should do your homework. We have one of the most advanced robotics factory in the country. We make things like drugs for kids with cancer that they can’t get elsewhere , biosimilars and drugs that are in shortage and sell them at an affordable price. We are expanding as we speak so we can do more and more.

Mark Cuban laments losing Luka Doncic to the Lakers

Many basketball fans believe that Nico Harrison would never have traded Luka Doncic away from Dallas had Mark Cuban been in charge of all basketball affairs. However, since the majority takeover by the Adelson family in 2024, Cuban’s powers within the organization have systematically been reduced.

Harrison, who reportedly always viewed Doncic’s work ethic to be slacking, found a way and a replacement for the Slovenian in Anthony Davis and acted. However, his actions left Cuban and the whole of the Dallas basketball scene dismayed, and with good reason. The Mavericks’ existing iteration was built with Doncic as the centerpiece. Cuban lamented the effects of the trade, noting that he had no chance to warn GM Harrison not to do it at the eleventh hour.

Neither Doncic nor Anthony Davis have found their best form with their new teams. While Davis was suffering from groin injury trouble in the first couple of months, Doncic is still ramping up from a lower extremity injury that has been plaguing him since the second half of 2023-24.
