5 Players with most Man-Of-the-Match awards in IPL history

What makes Indian Premier League better than any other T20 franchise tournament is perhaps the number of star cricketers involved in the tournament. Every team possess numerous world-class players who could turn the match in their team’s favour in a very short space of time. 

Over the years, we have seen some world-class players showcasing heart-warming performances in the tournament. However, there have been some who have done it on a consistent basis. 

And, consistent match-winning performances have led them to be awarded with Man of the Match awards many a time.

5. Rohit Sharma: 17

With 4 titles under his belt, Rohit Sharma is the most successful captain in the history of IPL. Besides, he is also the highest run-scorer for the franchise as well. Over the years, Rohit Sharma has played a lot of match-winning performances for the side. He has, in fact, the fifth most number of Man-of-the-Match titles to his name in IPL history. Rohit Sharma has 17 Man of The Match awards to his name in IPL. 

4. MS Dhoni 

MS Dhoni’s contribution in CSK’s success in IPL is invaluable. The former Indian skipper has been part of many successful run-chases for CSK in IPL. He has led his team to three titles in 10 editions. In his IPL career, MS Dhoni has claimed 17 Man-of-the-Match awards to his name. MS Dhoni will be leading CSK for the eleventh season ahead of IPL 2020. 

3. David Warner: 

In the last few years, David Warner has taken his performances to a new level. His performance in IPL has been nothing but exceptional. Warner has won the Orange Cap for as many as three times in IPL- the most by any player in IPL history. 

Besides, David Warner has the third most number of Man of the Match performances in IPL. In his illustrious IPL career, David Warner has won the Man of the Match performances for as many as 17 times.

2. AB de Villiers

To see AB de Villiers at number two shouldn’t come as a surprise. The South African cricketer has played many match-turning performances for RCB over the years. He has played 154 matches in IPL and has scored 4395 runs at a strike rate of 151.24. AB de Villiers, in his illustrious IPL career, has won 20 Man-of-the-Match performances. 

1. Chris Gayle 

The Universe Boss stands tall at the number one position when it comes to claiming the most number of Man of the Match performances. Chris Gayle holds the record for scoring the highest individual score in IPL. Turning up for RCB, he notched a mammoth 175 runs off just 66 balls. Overall, Gayle has amassed 4484 runs in 125 appearances in IPL. 

Chris Gayle boasts of 21 Man-of-the-Match awards to his name in IPL.
