The Texas Longhorns’ quest to win the National Championship has come to an end after the team went 13-3 before losing to Ohio State University in the playoffs. With this, quarterback Quinn Ewers has taken the last snap in a Longhorns jersey and the next step for him is the NFL.
He declared for the draft but his decision is being questioned by analysts and critics who believe his draft stock took a beating especially after his performance in the last game. Ideally, Quinn Ewers should transfer to a different school and play one more year wherein he gets better and improves his draft stock in the process.
However, the quarterback is confident in his talent and skillset. It is his decision and one that fans must respect. Quinn Ewers will not be an immediate starter on any team that he will be drafted onto but in due time, he can work his way up. Fortunately for him, there are not many good quarterbacks in this year’s class which gives him a better shot at being drafted. Here’s a list of the top five NFL teams that could use Ewers on their roster.
5. New Orleans Saints
The Saints are an ideal destination for Quinn Ewers for many reasons. The first being that the Spencer Rattler experiment has not turned out well so far. While Derek Carr is the undisputed starter for the team, they can consider drafting a quarterback with their second-round pick, however, this remains contingent on who takes over the Head Coaching vacancy in New Orleans.
Secondly, since Ewers will not be in a rush to start, he can serve as a backup and learn from Carr before getting ready to take over the job himself.
4. Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks have Geno Smith as their starting quarterback and he is an individual that gets the job done. However, in a year, he becomes a free agent and while he is seeking a new deal from the team, it would not hurt to have solid options because contract negotiations can go any ways.
Seattle will be in a position to draft a quarterback next season but a smarter decision would be to opt for Ewers who with a bit of guidance can become their next quarterback. The team has taken a gamble on quarterbacks in the past such as Russell Wilson who was a late pick in the draft and it had paid off so there is no denying if the team will replicate the same this year.
3. Cleveland Browns
The Browns are in a rough position quarterback-wise. This is because their situation with Deshaun Watson is not working out as he has struggled due to injuries, off-the-field legal turmoil, and has played terribly whenever he has stepped onto the field.
With an asterisk cast next to his availability status for the 2025 season, the realistic option for Cleveland is Jameis Winston. While he gets the job done, Winston is unpredictable- he either has a great game or a terrible one and struggles with consistency. Being in this situation, Quinn Ewers would be a breath of fresh air in Cleveland and he can learn from Winston while getting an opportunity to play a few snaps occasionally. Once Watson’s existing contract ends, if Ewers can progress, the team will not need to worry of its next franchise quarterback and can give him the job.
2. Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins have a vacancy in their quarterback room after Skylar Thompson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Tua Tagovailoa is the undisputed starter for the foreseeable future, if history has taught has one thing it is that his availability has been an issue.
In this, Quinn Ewers can come in and learn from him and Mike McDaniel while continuing to develop his game. It is hard to see him take over as the team’s franchise quarterback anytime soon but this experience would serve him well if he chooses to sign with another NFL team down the line.
1. Los Angeles Rams
The Rams would be the best-case scenario for Ewers. This is because Matthew Stafford is a great quarterback and a perfect fit for the team but he is also getting up there in age. However, he is the right standard that Quinn Ewers should model his game after because he relies on his arm heavily unlike dual-threat quarterbacks.
LA has the perfect offensive structure with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua as reliable pieces. Ewers will be walking into an ideal situation and an environment where he can focus on developing his game. While the team has signed Jimmy Garoppolo to backup Stafford, the upside potential of Ewers is more compared to the veteran. There could not be a better market than LA for Quinn Ewers to step into.
