Ilia Topuria is undoubtedly one of the biggest UFC superstars on the current roster. He won the UFC featherweight championship last year, and went on to defend it in a dominant fashion. His superstar status has caught the attention of many, including the makers of the biggest superhero franchise, Marvel.
MCU recently released their anticipated television series Daredevil: Born Again, and the hype around it is huge. The original Daredevil show had a huge fan base, leading Marvel to do everything to promote their new version. As a result, they have also collaborated with Ilia Topuria due to his surging popularity.
It was a short teaser where fans can see Ilia Topuria with a serious look, which they have seen several times inside the octagon. The Georgian-Spanish star is a big trash talker and likes to get into his opponent’s head. However, he backs it up by doing exactly the same thing inside the octagon.
Topuria knocked out Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 to win the UFC featherweight title, and knocked out Max Holloway. Both were legends of the sport, and this has made Topuria a global superstar. Now, the UFC superstar has moved up and wants to continue the same dominance in the lightweight division.
UFC lightweight veteran talks about Ilia Topuria’s move
Recently, UFC CEO Dana White announced that Ilia Topuria has vacated his belt due to having troubles in weight cutting. As a result, former champion Alexander Volkanovski has been scheduled to fight Diego Lopes for the vacant title. Topuria will now move to the 155 lbs weight class and is already looking for a title shot against Islam Makhachev.

This was a shocking move which left many fans questioning the future of the Georgian-Spanish fighter. While many believe it was a risky decision, others are confident about his chances against top lightweights. Recently, Justin Gaethje also gave his opinion on the matter and was positive about it.
Yeah, I think he’s a fighter. Especially with the confidence that he has right now… So yeah, I think it just made the most exciting weight class in this sport a little bit more exciting.

Other than Gaethje, lightweight legend Dustin Poirier has also shared a similar sentiment and backed Topuria to compete for the title. Recently, he rejected UFC’s offer to fight top contender Arman Tsarukyan. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see if the fighter manages to get the UFC gold again.
