Paul George was set to reveal his new jersey number in the podcast episode, Philadelphia 76ers spoiled the chance

Paul George is officially a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. Moving to the other side of the country, the 9-time All-Star has signed on to give himself the best opportunity to get a shot at the NBA title. Therefore, the excitement on his face was evident when he sat in his chair wearing his new jersey. Just that he had a basketball covering his next jersey number.

He and his co-hosts of Podcast P with Paul George had a short conversation in an attempt to build up to an upcoming episode. Prime of which was his jersey number. Their back and forth ended with George removing the basketball that covered the number, only for the camera to zoom in. They released this trailer with a caption that pointed towards a reveal on Monday. However, the Philadelphia 76ers confirmed his signing through their official X (formerly Twitter) account. But inadvertently, showed him wearing his new jersey with the no. 8 blazoned on it.

This move spoiled the surprise Paul George had kept from his more than 700K subscribers. Denying him and his podcast co-hosts the opportunity to have a lot of viewers. It seems someone from the 76ers media team did not get the memo.

Nevertheless, now the 5-time All-NBA superstar will look to reveal the journey he undertook in this free agency. After all, he went from being close to signing with other West Coast teams to ending up with the team whose leading superstar side-eyed him. Showing his desire to team up with George.

Paul George gets NBA Finals standout performer as teammate

The Philadelphia 76ers had a golden opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start afresh. That too, with two superstars in tow. Now with Paul George, they have their 3rd superstar. But teams need more than just 3 superstars to win an NBA title. Therefore, they did their best to prize away former Miami Heat star rotational player Caleb Martin.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that Martin turned down a bigger offer from the Heat to sign with the 76ers. Which means, he wants to have another go at the NBA title. A chance which fell to him in 2023. Only for the Denver Nuggets to win the title. But those finals and the playoffs prior to that established his reputation as a standout performer. Caleb Martin will be one of the most impactful additions to the Philadelphia 76ers.

A player who can drill 3’s, attack the rim and defend the perimeter. Skills that brought George to the team in the first place. Now they have 2 of the same kind with just a difference in their overall level. No wonder Paul George is all excited.
