The drama of the Masters Tournament continued on Saturday. During the moving day, Rory McIlroy was once again in the driving seat. The North Irishman finished the day as the outright leader following a score of 66. An 8-time PGA Tour winner wants him to win the 2025 event over Bryson DeChambeau.
McIlroy started the tournament in strong fashion. He was 4-under par in his first 14 holes. However, two late bogeys in a three-hole stretch saw his train get off the tracks as he ended the day T27 with an even par score.
The 4-time major champion came roaring back into the competition with a score of 6-under 66 on Friday. On Saturday, he continued from where he left off the previous day and carded another score of 66 to go 12-under par for the tournament and have a 2-shot lead over second-place golfer Bryson DeChambeau.
For McIlroy, the stakes cannot be any higher than this. A win on Sunday will see him claim his first Masters win, end an 11-year major championship drought, and complete the career grand slam. 8-time PGA Tour winner Billy Horschel wants McIlroy to get the job done on Sunday.
Tomorrow is going to be an exciting day for the game of golf. Lots of story lines. Course will be getable with benign conditions. History possibly in the making. I can’t wait to watch tomorrow like every other golf fan. Personally, I would love to see Rory win and achieve something only 5 other golfers have in the game of golf have achieved. Can’t wait to watch! @TheMasters

In his previous 4 major championship triumphs, McIlroy was the outright leader of the event. However, there have been some huge comebacks in the final round of this event before where big leads have been wiped off. McIlroy himself lost a 4-shot lead in the 2011 and finished T15 while starting the day as the leader.
Who can Rory McIlroy join while completing the grand slam by winning the Masters Tournament?
In golf, the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship are considered the major championships. In the long history of this game, only five golfers have held all four of them. Rory McIlroy is now looking to join an exclusive club by becoming the sixth golfer to complete the career grand slam.

Gene Sarazen completed the grand slam in 1935 after his winning his first and only Masters Tournament title. At that time, the grand slam was not a massive deal as it is now. He won the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship 1922, the Open Championship in 1932 and then the Masters in 1935 to achieve this feat.
Ben Hogan became the 2nd player to win all four of these titles after claiming a win in the 1953 Open Championship. He had won the PGA Championship in 1946, the U.S. Open in 1948 and the Masters Tournament in 1951.
South African legend Gary Player was the third one to achieve this feat. He completed the career grand slam while winning the U.S. Open in 1965. This was the only major championship Player did not win multiple times.
Jack Nicklaus completed the career grand slam a year after Gary Player. “The Golden Bear” won the 1966 Open Championship at Muirfield Golf Links to achieve this feat. By that time, he was already a 5-time major champion. He went on to finish his career with 18 major championship wins.
The last person to do is Tiger Woods. The former World No.1 completed the grand slam by winning The Open Championship in his first try in 2000. Woods is also the only player to hold all 4 major titles at the same time. He won the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship in 2000 and then won the Masters in 2001 to complete what is now called the Tiger Slam.

Rory McIlroy among 3 active players to have won 3 legs of career grand slam in men’s professional golf
A huge piece of golfing history could be made on Sunday if Rory McIlroy walks away as the winner of the Masters Tournament. He is one of the 3 active players to have won 3 legs of the career grand slam in men’s professional golf.

In the history of golf, there are 12 players who have won 3 of the 4 major championships. However, most of them have sadly passed away or retired from competitive golf. McIlroy is one of the 3 active players who can complete the grand slam.
One of those is Phil Mickelson. Among his 6 major triumphs, 3 have come in the Masters Tournament. However, he has not won the U.S. Open. In his long career, the LIV Golfer has a staggering 6 runner-up finishes in the U.S. Open.
The third and final member is Jordan Spieth. Just like McIlroy, he won his major championships early on and has struggled since then. He needs to win the PGA Championship to complete the career grand slam. Among the five people who have achieved this feat so far, none of them won the PGA Championship to complete it.
