“They need skill players,” Mina Kimes strongly believes the Bears should exchange their No.1 draft pick for a ‘motherload’ of picks to rebuild the team

The Chicago Bears had yet another disappointing season, which seems to be a trend for them. The Bears ended the 2022 season with a 3-14 record which earned them the No.1 pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
On the brighter side, their 2021 first-round pick, Justin Fields, looked comparatively better than in his rookie season. He had a 192 completion for 2242 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. While Fields managed to improve his quarterback skills, he still hasn’t learned how to win games yet. The 23-year-old started in 15 games and won just 3 of those encounters.
The Bears are going to look at the quarterbacks coming in at the NFL Combine but aren’t going to draft anyone as they have said that Fields is going to be their QB1 in 2023. It’s just a routine check done by second-year general manager Ryan Poles to see if the incoming quarterbacks match Justin Fields or are better than him.

Many analysts and NFL insiders have reported that the Bears are likely going to trade their No.1 draft pick. ESPN’s Mina Kimes believes that the Bears should trade their No.1 spot in exchange for many picks to draft players on both offense and defense to turn around the franchise from being named as one of the worst in the league.
Mina Kimes was asked how important it was for the Bears to stay in the top 5 after giving their No.1 pick. To which Kimes replied that the two defensive players who are in their own league are William Anderson, outside linebacker out of Alabama, and Georgia’s defensive tackle Jalen Carter. Both players will be quickly scooped up by teams and the Bears could really benefit from either of these players on their roster. Chicago’s defense ranked 29th overall in 2022, so just imagine the impact and change Anderson or Carter can bring to the team.
However, Kimes added, “This Bears roster needs a lot of talent. The front seven needs help, the offensive line. They need skill players and if a team like Carolina at 9 or even beyond that offer a mother lode of draft picks to move up to number one, I, as Chicago, would seriously consider that even if it meant missing out on one of those two or three defensive players at the top.”
The Bears can follow the same thing the New England Patriots did while Tom Brady was still with them. The Patriots would mostly draft players from the second, third, or fourth rounds and mold them into elite athletes. Case in point — Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola. Let’s see if the Bears also follow the same strategy or do they pick just one elite player in the first round and don’t get enough chances to select players with great potential or does the opposite happens? Fans will know the answer to this question in the last week of April.
