On his podcast, Joe Rogan frequently discusses boxing and mixed martial arts with his guests. When discussing safety issues, Rogan and the panel once contrasted MMA and boxing. Theong counts in boxing are risky because boxers can have concussions and still have to compete, according to one of Rogan’s guests. But in mixed martial arts (MMA), the referee ends the fight as soon as a fighter is unable to defend himself.
He said: “You can get knocked down and get up and you’d be concussed and like keep on fighting. Where in MMA they will stop it, if you are not defending yourself.” Rogan totally agreed with the statement and noted that being knocked out quickly is preferable over receiving punches while wearing thick padded gloves repeatedly.
He did, however, also discuss how providing extended counts in boxing is preferable from the standpoint of entertainment. The skill level of a boxer can truly be seen by spectators in boxing, according to Rogan, because there aren’t any other distractions like leg kicks and wrestling.
“That’s only possible that kind of artistry if there’s no wrestling, there’s no leg kicks, there’s only boxing. Cause otherwise, you would do other s*** too. Leg kick, you would try to take him down. The level of dominance that a real-world champion boxer has with their hands it’s hard to really appreciate,” said Rogan. Despite the difference, both sports are still considered risky and many fighters have suffered severe injuries in the past.
Joe Rogan comments on a boxer going against an MMA fighter inside the cage

There will always be discussion over how a boxer and an MMA fighter will square off, but it appears like Joe Rogan is confident in the result. In a chat, Rogan said an MMA fighter would be able to last two rounds versus a professional boxer. The UFC color commentator predicted a one-sided contest in which an MMA fighter will kick, elbow, and wrestle the boxer.
He said: “You might think that professional boxers are the most dangerous strikers, but they literally wouldn’t last two rounds. They’d get their legs kicked out from under them, they’d get kneed in the body and elbowed in the face, they’d get cut up and clinched and thrown to the ground. It’s just a better style of fighting. This is the pinnacle of striking sports.”
In MMA, there are unquestionably more possible ways to hurt the opponent. A boxer would find it extremely challenging to keep up with an MMA fighter using punches, leg kicks, elbows, and other moves.
