India vs Australia: Ravindra Jadeja ruled out for six weeks with fractured thumb

India‘s injury woes which have been troubling the side right from the beginning of the tour of Australia worsened today as reports stated that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out for six weeks. What was initially thought of only as a dislocated thumb has now been reported to be a fracture as well and hence, Jadeja will miss the remainder of the Test series against Australia. The injury occurred when a bouncer from Mitchell Starc struck the thumb of his left and bowling hand.
Further, England’s tour of India is set to begin in February and Jadeja could miss the start of the same as well. The first Test is scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad from February 5 onwards. The absence of the ace all-rounder could be a huge blow to India in both the series against Australia and England.
Call on availability for England series to be taken later
According to ANI, a source from the BCCI gave the update on Ravindra Jadeja’s injury saying, “He has a dislocation and fracture. He will be out for around 6 weeks and a specialist’s opinion will be taken to check if the all-rounder needs a surgery as is the procedure in such cases. A call on his availability for the England series can be taken only after the specialist checks on the thumb.”
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant who also got injured and hurt his elbow is expected to be fit to bat for India’s second innings although he was unable to keep wickets with Wriddhiman Saha replacing him for the same. India’s injury issues thus continue to grow and it does not bode well for the side with such a packed schedule ahead of them.
