India vs Australia: Sunil Gavaskar classifies Rohit Sharma’s dismissal as ‘irresponsible shot’

The batting legend Sunil Gavaskar was exasperated at Rohit Sharma’s dismissal during India’s first innings of the ongoing fourth Test at the Gabba. After Australia were all out for 369, Indian openers walked the pitch during the 2nd session on Day 2.
Though India lost young Shubman Gill early, Sharma looked in fine touch today. Sharma had hit a lovely straight drive against Josh Hazlewood earlier. Making the temptation turn into a trap, Nathan Lyon floated the ball in the air. Rohit came down the track but could not get to the pitch of the ball, chipped it in the air, and Mitchell Starc took the catch near the deep mid-wicket area. Rohit lost his wicket when he was looking dominant on the Australian bowlers.
Sunil Gavaskar fumes
Infuriated on Sharma’s dismissal, Sunil Gavaskar told Channel 7, “Why? Why? Why? That’s an unbelievable shot. That’s an irresponsible shot. There is a fielder there at long oo, there is a fielder there at deep square leg.”
“You have just hit a boundary a couple of deliveries earlier and why would you play that shot? You’re a senior player, there is no excuse, absolutely no excuse for that shot. An unnecessary wicket, an unnecessary wicket gifted away. Totally unnecessary,” Gavaskar added.
It was disappointing to see Sharma giving away his wicket casually. Following Sharma’s dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane came out in the middle.
