Southampton manager Ralph Hassenhuettl stated that he is sure Danny Ings will be a Southampton player for a long time. He also stated that if Danny Ings could score 10 to 15 goals more now, Southampton could find themselves in the Champions League next season. All this is being said while the English striker has 18 months left on his contract and is stalling on signing a new deal with the Saints as he wants to leave the club to join a better club.

Ings was playing at Burnley in the 2014/15 season when Brendan Rodgers brought him to Anfield the next season. He had scored 11 goals in 35 matches for Burnley and was expected to replicate the same form as he was an intelligent attacker. However an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury laid rest to the plans as he was ruled out for the season but still made an appearance in the last match of the 2015/16 season. The 2016/17 season followed the same script as he was injured for nearly 9 months and didn’t play at all.

Liverpool had signed Mohamed Salah in the 2017/18 season and with that they completed their fearsome front three which took the world by storm. Due to the form of all three players, Ings found game time hard to come by and he was loaned to Southampton as per his request. Jurgen Klopp reluctantly let him go the next season as Southampton signed him on a permanent basis. His career at Liverpool was always a question of ‘what if?’ if he had stayed fit enough for long periods of time. Roberto Firmino is more of an attacking midfielder playing as a centre-forward and Danny Ings was a natural striker through and through.

Now that it is known that Ings wants to play for a Champions League club, Liverpool could try to sign him again to give him a second chance. While it is known that Southampton will ask a heavy transfer fee, Danny Ings has turned into one of the best strikers in the league as evidenced by him scoring 22 goals in the Premier League last season. Liverpool could get a natural striker who focuses on scoring goals and has actual skills for that. It remains to be seen what happens now on this piece of news.
