Vicuna Kerala Blasters and Habas Mohun Bagan

It was a thrilling encounter last night, which saw ATK Mohun Bagan come back from 2-0 down to beat Kerala Blasters 3-2. Strikes from Gary Hooper (14′) and Costa Nhamoinesu (51′) gave the Blasters a 2 Goal advantage before a goal from Marcelinho (59′) and a wonderful brace from Krishna (65′, 87′) helped Bagan to complete a remarkable comeback.

The first half belonged to Kerala, who dominated possession and also created decent chances. In the 14th minute Gary Hooper gave Blasters the lead through a spectacular strike. Sandeep Singh put a brilliant ball for Gary Hooper. Hooper’s first touch from his chest was perfect and then he shot the ball straight at goal from 30-35 yards out caught Arindam by surprise. One of the contenders for the Goal of the season.

On the half-hour mark, Jordan Murray got into a fabulous scoring position released a powerful drive only for Arindam to make a very good save on full stretch. The Yellow Army doubled the advantage when in the 51st minute, Costa Nhamoinesu scores off a melee in the ATKMB box. He pounced on Tiri’s mistake to not clear the lines.

Bagan’s comeback was started in the 59th minute when Manvir Singh lobbed the ball over Kerala’s defence and found Marcelinho, who kept his cool and found the net with a delightful chip over the keeper.

Roy Krishna ATK Mohun Bagan

In the 63rd minute, Bagan got a penalty when Jessel Carneiro was found guilty for handball. ATK Mohun Bagan equalised through a brilliantly struck penalty by their talisman Roy Krishna. After the equalizer, Bagan went for an all-out-attack to win the contest.

Roy Krishna puts ATKMB in the lead for the first time in the game. On the 87th minute mark, the come back was complete when Krishna beastly gets onto the loop cross before Sandeep and cuts past Jeakson to find the back of the net and win it for his team.

Marcelinho, having joined Bagan on loan from Odisha, was struggling for game time at his former club. But, on Sunday, he looked a man transformed, adding creative spark to the Mariners attack his long-range drives and direct approach caused Blasters all sorts of troubles. Hope he continues this for because he is an elegant player to watch when in-form. Roy Krishna once again turned out to be the saviour for Antonio Habas’ side his physical nuisance and trickery added to his pace is tough to take for opposition defences.

With this win, ATK Mohun Bagan moved up to second in the table with 27 points in touching distance to table-toppers Mumbai City at 30 points. While Kerala Blasters are languishing in the Bottom half at 9th with 15 points.
