Australian Open 2021: Former World No.1 Victoria Azarenka suffers shock exit in the first round

Victoria Azarenka suffered a first-round defeat at the Australian Open 2021 at the hands of little known American Jessica Pegula. Pegula recorded a straight sets victory 7-5, 6-4. Azarenka has won the Australian Open twice in the past, once in 2012 and then again in 2013.
In the recent past, she has been a finalist at the US Open 2020 and was in reasonably good touch. In the post-match conference she spoke about quarantine having an impact on her game, she said: “Of course, it has impacted [on court].”
Azarenka continued, “But try to sit here and find an excuse because of quarantine, as I said, it is what it is. “ Azarenka was adamant that although Quarantine was an issue, you cannot make it an excuse. She said that its up to the individual how he or she can deal with it. Azarenka also talked about the fact that she individually needs more practice matches to be ready. “I know I needed some matches,” she added.
Azarenka refuses to blame her medical condition for her first round exit

Azarenka was in a decent position in the match before she took two medical time-outs and consequently lost the match. In one of her medical time outs she was also using an inhaler. But when asked about those things, she did not want to say much. She replied, “It shouldn’t be a mandatory requirement for people to talk about their health issues. Even legally doctors should not release any information,” Azarenka said.
Players usually suffer a lot of criticism and receive a lot of hate for things they cannot do anything about, like their health conditions. That is why Azarenka wants it to be a individual players call, if they want to talk about their medical condition or not.
