Day 7 of the Australian Open was the second day without spectators and the matches had a different feel to it. The day saw Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov record victories. While qualifier Aslan Karatsev won a shocking five setter against Felix Auger Aliassime. The big shock of the day was Dominic Thiem who bid goodbye from this year’s Australian Open.

Zverev thrashes Lajovic in straight sets

German 6th seed Alexander Zverev used his powerful serve to good effect to overcome 23rd seed Dusan Lajovic of Serbia 6-4 7-6(5) 6-3 on Sunday and reach the Australian Open quarter-finals.

He needed five sets to beat Lajovic in each of their two previous meetings at the French Open, but the 23-year-old was in a more ruthless mood on Margaret Court Arena and sealed victory with his 15th ace.

Dimitrov shocks Thiem to reach 4th Australian Open QF

Probably nobody saw this coming. A tired-looking Dominic Thiem became the highest seed to fall at this year’s Australian Open when the US Open champion was sent tumbling out in straight sets by Grigor Dimitrov in the 4th round on Sunday.

The Austrian third seed, appeared to lack energy after rallying to beat Nick Kyrgios over five gruelling sets on Friday in front of a raucous crowd. He struggled to match the intensity of the 18th-seeded Bulgarian on a silent, fan-free Rod Laver Arena and slumped out 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.

Qualifier Karatsev upsets Auger Aliassime to sail into QF

Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev continued his fairytale run at the Australian Open on Sunday, reaching the quarterfinals on his Grand Slam debut with a 3-6, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 win over 20th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Gritty Novak Djokovic topples Milos Raonic again

Once a champion, always a champion and Novak Djokovic showed just that. Djokovic, not at his 100% fitness got the better of Canadian Milos Raonic in four sets 7-6(4),4-6,6-1,6-4.

Djokovic said that if it would have been any tournament other than a grand slam, he would’ve pulled out. But the Serb pulled his socks up and showed why he is the world no.1 to cross the finish line.
