Uttarakhand High Court, on Monday, raised the issue of lack of playgrounds for children by taking the suo moto cognizance of Virat Kohli’s video. The former India captain, in his video, highlighted the importance of outdoor sports for the kids and the necessity for playgrounds in residential areas and colonies.
Uttarakhand HC sought a reply from the state and central government on the issue in two weeks. The next hearing is on October 9. HC asked the state and central governments for information on whether, under the ‘Khelo India’ initiative, playgrounds can be constructed in these places.
The video, titled ‘Let’s Kids Play’ was uploaded by Star Sports three years ago, Kohli raised the importance of how the children, though they want to play, find it difficult to play due to the lack of space.
“They [the children] are denied a good environment, wherein they can pursue sports, which, as we have already noticed, greatly contributes to their physical and mental growth. That apart, such sporting activities also teach them social skills, which hold them in good stead in their future lives, ” observed Division Bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal.

Suresh Raina believes Shubman Gill wants to be the next Virat Kohli
Shubman Gill is enjoying the best form this year. A double century in ODI, becoming second highest run-scorer in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and recently crossing the 1000-run mark in ODIs, this year has been Gill’s. He is also on the verge of dethroning Pakistan’s Babar Azam from the number one spot of the ICC ODI Rankings for batters.

Because of his achievements this year, former India star Suresh Raina, on JioCinema show ‘Home of the Blues: India Heroes’, opined that Gill will be the most important player for India in the upcoming World Cup starting October 5 in India. Raina believes that Gill wants to be the next Virat Kohli, predicting that after the World Cup, the cricket fraternity will be talking about him a lot. Raina thinks what captain Rohit Sharma did in the 2019 ODI World Cup will be emulated by Gill this year.
