As the off-season gains momentum, the Boston Celtics recently made a major trade move by acquiring Jrue Holiday in a blockbuster deal. In exchange for Holiday, the Celtics sent 2023 Sixth Man of the Year Malcolm Brogdon and fan favorite Robert Williams III to the Portland Trail Blazers. While a trade for Brogdon appeared to be in the works, the decision to trade away Williams came as a shock to many. Even Jayson Tatum was left emotional, witnessing his longtime teammate being traded.

Tatum took to Instagram and posted a story to say bid farewell to his now-former teammate and friend. In his message, the Celtics superstar acknowledged that this is one of the toughest aspects of the business. While Tatum was clearly affected by seeing his friend traded, he expressed how proud he is of Williams and the player he has grown into.

Tatum wrote, “This one hurt. My brotha right here. Toughest part about this business, appreciate you for everything. Super proud of the player you have become and excited to see how far you take it. Keep striving to be special and never change who you are. My dawg 4L till we link up again. Nothing but love.”

Williams consistently proved to be a crucial player for the Celtics with his strong defensive contributions. Despite a season marred by injuries, he managed to achieve impressive statistics. Williams averaged eight points and 8.3 rebounds in 35 regular-season games last season.

Williams was a crucial part of the Celtics frontcourt these past season and his departure will surely leave a significant void in the Celtics roster. The men in green will now field a front court of Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Oshae Brissett and Luke Kornet.

Nevertheless, the Celtics have bolstered their roster with the addition of Jrue Holiday, a player renowned as one of the league’s top perimeter defenders.

Jayson Tatum and the Celtics poised for a strong next season

With the addition of Jrue Holiday, the Boston Celtics now boast a formidable big-four of Holiday, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis. The fifth starter position is likely to be filled by either Derrick White or Al Horford.

According to several betting sites, the Celtics have now emerged as the favorites to lift the NBA championship next season. With Joe Mazzulla at the helm and a strong roster at his disposal, the men in green will have their eyes set on the coveted title.

While the Celtics decided to part ways with their veteran player and premier defender Marcus Smart, Holiday is not far behind in terms of defensive quality and is certainly an offensive upgrade. Last season, Holiday put on a show, averaging 19.3 points, 7.4 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 67 games.

If things go well without major health issues in the squad, the Celtics can be a formidable force for their opponents. Only time will tell what lies ahead for the team.
