Zach Wilson is winning back some fans after his heroic performance in the New York Jets‘ loss against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Wilson outplayed the reigning league Patrick Mahomes in their duel but just couldn’t get his team over the line. His heroic performance has given Aaron Rodgers some belief that the Jets could get a win against the struggling Denver Broncos in their week 5 matchup on Sunday.
“Other than the first quarter and maybe, a couple of drives on fourth, I felt like Zach [Wilson] played really well, and [we] were efficient moving the ball, the crowd was electric,” said Rodgers during Tuesday’s episode of the ESPN podcast The Pat McAfee Show. “Disappointing, you know… we don’t talk about moral victories, but definitely a lot to build from that game, that night, and hopefully we can get this one this week and start getting on a roll.”
Rodgers praised Zach’s remarkable outing against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Sunday. Wilson completed 28 of his 39 pass attempts for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns. But he fumbled the snap during a crucial time during the fourth quarter of the game, which led to a turnover. After that, a couple of questionable calls led to the Jets never getting the ball back.
In the end, the Jets suffered a 23-20 loss in a close game against the defending Super Bowl champions. But Rodgers believes if Zach can keep playing like he did in week 4, the Jets have a shot at winning against the Broncos in week 5 and further getting into a winning streak.
Aaron Rodgers and Zach Wilson talk almost every day
Despite his Achilles injury, the 39-year-old Aaron Rodgers has been involved in the Jets’ 2023 season. During a recent episode of the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers revealed that he talks with the Jets’ starting quarterback Zach Wilson almost every day.

“Zach and I talk almost every day, I mean we’re very close and I love him and I care about him,” said Rodgers. “I’m always checking in with him and I think we’ve seen a lot of leadership growth from him.”
Rodgers further went on to say that he is “proud of” the leadership the young quarterback has shown and the growth he has had. The veteran quarterback said that he just gave a pep talk to Wilson before the game and didn’t need to say anything special to him.
Whatever Rodgers told Wilson, it seems to be working. The young quarterback took accountability for the Jets’ loss against the Chiefs despite playing well and seemingly had the support of his locker room, as he was seen consolidated by his teammates after the loss. Next, he will look to lead his team to a victory against the struggling 1-3 Broncos on Sunday.
