A disturbing incident happened at a high school football game in Florida. A coach was seen right-hooking a player in the middle of last week’s high school football game.

In a video shared by former Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions cornerback Kevin Hobbs on the social media platform X, a coach was seen punching a player — wearing number 94 — running from the field to the sidelines to complete a late submission. As the video continues, the coach can be seen continuing to yell at him on the sidelines.

Hobbs shared the video on his profile and condemned the act of coach, claiming one should never reach a point where he punches a player. Hobbs’ video went viral on social media and accumulated more than 1.4 million views within just a couple of days. Many people found the incident disturbing and demanded the school fire the coach. Check out the footage attached below.

And now, Jesuit High School announced that the assistant coach, who punched a player, has been relieved of his duties at the school. According to reports, the assistant coach was just working as a part-time employee of the school.

The incident happened during a heated rivalry game between Jesuit High School and Tampa Catholic, in which Jesuit won 66-35. The team’s head coach Matt Thompson didn’t comment on the incident and just said that the incident is being addressed when he was asked about it, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Jesuit High School President addressed the slapping incident

After the video of a Florida high school coach punching a player went viral and received backlash, the Jesuit High School President, Reverend Richard Hermes, addressed the incident in communication with the parents.

This behavior contradicts what the school stands for and is completely contrary to the expectations we have for coaches, moderators and faculty members, who are to be role models for our students and mentors in their development as young men.
Hermes said in a statement that was issued to all the school’s families.

Additionally, the school revealed that they reached out to the family of the student who was punched in the game. The school noted that the student was not injured in the incident.

He finished his statement by saying that the school is reviewing the internal procedures and staff training to ensure all the employees uphold the standards of the school. Nonetheless, it is unclear whether the coach is facing any legal action for punching a student.
