Fastest century in IPL history: List of top 5 batsmen with the fastest hundreds in an IPL match

David Miller, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has never been short of entertainment and when the batsmen are on song and get going, there is bound to be pandemonium. The shortest format of the game favors the batsmen and it is them who have held their own and come up with enthralling knocks of the highest quality to flatten even the strongest of bowling attacks.

A century in a T20 match is no mean feat and when it comes in quick time, it is the recipe for a batting performance that can best be described as perfect. There have been as many as 62 hundreds scored by 36 cricketers in the tournament’s 13-year history. But, only three out of them have been scored in less than 40 balls. This list might change come the 2021 edition of the IPL and might not because of how difficult it is to come up with innings like these.

In the 2013 edition of the IPL, South Africa’s David Miller announced himself with some style as he aced a stiff chase of 191 with remarkable ease. Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had got to 190 thanks to Cheteshwar Pujara and Chris Gayle‘s fifties.

In reply, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were reduced to 64/4 but what followed was an exhibition of power-hitting as Miller came out all guns blazing and got to a 38-ball hundred to take his side home in just 18 overs.

It was then that Yusuf walked in and produced a blistering knock. He reached his 100 in just 37 balls and brought his side to the brink of a famous victory. But ultimately, he was run out and RR fell short by 4 runs.

Chris Gayle‘s knock for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India (PWI) stands till date as arguably the greatest knock played in T20 cricket history. Put in to bat first at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Jamaican hit sixes at will and batted like he could do no wrong.

He reached his 100 in just 30 balls and ended on 175* in 66 balls as RCB notched up 263 runs on the board with help from a quick-fire thirty from AB de Villiers. In reply, PWI could manage only 133 runs as Steve Smith waged a lone battle.
