I’m enjoying this hair because it’s giving me the power of this fight’ – Jiri Prochazka on his ‘Wai Khru’ inspired hair

Jiri Prochazka the Czech makes his second appearance in the UFC this weekend. The former Rizin Fighting Federation champion is currently on an unbelievable 11 match win streak, with his last win coming against Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 251, last July. Despite having made his light-heavyweight debut only last year, he is already number 5 in the light-heavyweight rankings. A classic case of UFC lightweight Michael Chandler.

Prochazka will be taking on Dominick ‘Devastator’ Reyes in the main event of the UFC Fight Night this weekend. Speaking at the media day at UFC Apex, Prochazka had a lot of respect for the number 3 ranked light-heavyweight, but promised that he had prepared well for the fight.

Another talking point was Prochazka’s haircut. Inspired by traditional mongkhon headgear worn by Muay Thai athletes performing the wai khru.

He’s a very good athlete, very good striker‘ – Jiri Prochazka on Dominick Reyes

Speaking about Reyes, Prochazka said, “I don’t know (Reyes) personally, but he looks like a good man. He’s a very good athlete, very good striker, and that’s how I’m taking him: seriously, not like I was in the first fight, in the first round. I was a little bit – I took it a little bit easier, and now I want to keep it most professionally how I can.”

He continued, “I think I’m ready for the fighting in the standup because that’s my state of fighting. I think maybe he will change the strategy to me, and he wants to take me down, and I’m ready for that, to wrestle with him and to fight on the ground. That was my preparation.”

About his hairdo, the Czech said, “I’m enjoying this hair because it’s giving me the power of this week and of this fight. It’s how I’m taking this moment, this fight: importantly and seriously. This is the hair just for this moment.”

Reyes is coming off two back-to-back losses against Jon Jones and Jan Blachowicz respectively. The losses also happened to be his first two losses in his MMA career. He will be looking forward to stopping his two-fight skid, come this Saturday.
