Coco Gauff, who turns 20 tomorrow, shares a bizarre birthday wish after beating Lucia Bronzetti to reach the fourth round of Indian Wells. The World No. 3 extended her winning streak in the United States of America to 18 yesterday.
Following her last season’s success at the US Open, which saw her win her first career major title, the American boasts of an Auckland title this year. After what must have been a poor outing in the Middle East swing last month, the American seems to be finding her best rhythm in the California desert.

With that being said, it seems like the 19-year-old gave herself an early birthday present by defeating Lucia Bronzetti 6-2, 7-6 (5) in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open. After the match, during an on-court interview, she was asked what she would love for her 20th birthday. To which, the World No. 3 bizarrely revealed that she just wants to be alive.
Uhm.. I don’t know. I’m just happy to be alive. That’s honestly a blessing. There are a lot of things I dealt with in my personal life. I’m really happy to see 20. I don’t want to jinx it but hopefully, I’ll see 20. Please, God. Thank you.Gauff said.
During the match against Bronzetti, Coco Gauff struggled early in the first set but found a way to hold her opponent’s serve by saving 10 of 12 break points. In the round of 16, she will play Elise Mertens, who defeated Naomi Osaka 7-5, 6-4.
Coco Gauff downplays the milestone of turning 20
Coco Gauff has downplayed the milestone of turning 20 following her earned victory against Lucia Bronzetti in Indian Wells to mark her last after the match as a teenager.

The 19-year-old has risen to No. 3 in the WTA Live rankings, which is an extraordinary achievement from a player who turned pro in 2018. During the postmatch press conference, Gauff shrugged off the significance of turning 20, adding that her birthday would continue to coincide with the Indian Wells Masters.
No, not really. I mean, every year at this tournament it's going to be my last match of some age. So, yeah, it doesn't feel weird, no. Yeah. I mean, I haven't really thought about it tennis-wise or off the court, honestly. Yeah, it's not like a huge milestone, you said, in the U.S., just turning another age.Gauff said
Notably, Gauff would be hoping to continue in her fine form from her last campaign in the United States. The American who won the 2023 US Open and reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open can impress in another big tournament.
