Novak Djokovic takes pride in representing his country and it has shown on his face every time he plays for Serbia. The 37-year-old is arguably the best tennis player ever with as many as 24 Grand Slam Singles titles to his credit. He has won ten Australian Open titles, four US Open titles, three Roland Garros, and seven Wimbledon Championships. Moreover, he has won seven ATP Finals titles.

But what is the best sporting success for Djokovic? None of the above-mentioned titles. An Olympic gold medal is what the Serbian ace rates the highest. After he finally won the ultimate prize at the Summer Games on Sunday, August 4, defeating the reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion, Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic hailed it as his best ever.

Speaking to the media after his win, Djokovic talked about the importance of this win for him. Djoker recounted how he was not able to win a medal ever since his bronze medal win at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

He said that until yesterday; he felt that carrying his country’s flag at the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics was the best feeling. However, it changed after he bagged his first Olympic gold medal.

Olympic gold supersedes everything for Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic claimed that the feeling that he had after winning the gold medal on Sunday superseded everything he ever imagined. He also explained why he rates this win as his best sporting success while he has so many to talk about.

Djokovic said that playing at the age of 37 against a player, Carlos Alcaraz who is “one of the best tennis players” and is in the form of his life, winning back-to-back Grand Slam titles, it was an unbelievable win for him.

This supersedes everything I imagined and hoped I could experience and feel. The fact I won the Bronze in the first Olympics and ever since failed to win a medal and played three out of four Olympic Games, in semifinal, couldn't overcome that obstacle. Now, at age 37, with a 21-year-old that is one of the best players in the world right now. When I take everything into consideration, this probably is the biggest sporting success I've ever had.
Novak Djokovic said about his Olympic gold in the post-match press conference.

Notably, Novak Djokovic was seen crying inconsolably after his win over Alcaraz at the ultimate match of the Games. Nole let the world know that this has been something he has been waiting for forever. He admitted that his puzzle was now finally complete after this win in Paris.
