Stephen Curry makes stunning admission about $112M teammate Jimmy Butler: “Exact opposite of me”
Stephen Curry had thoughts on the pairing between him and the Warriors latest superstar Jimmy Butler after their first game together.
Stephen Curry shares thoughts on Jimmy Butler
The Jimmy Butler era in Golden State is off to a flying start. The scorned superstar finally made his debut for the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night against the Chicago Bulls. The game saw the new superstar pairing for the Warriors in action with solid performances by Stephen Curry and Butler. The game saw the new-look Warriors take home a 21-point victory at the United Center in Chicago.
Following the game, Stephen Curry had a lot to say about his thoughts on how he pairs with a player like Jimmy Butler on the squad. Having played with perimeter-focused players for most of his career, Curry was pleasantly surprised by playing alongside a star like Butler, who applies constant rim pressure. Their opposing playstyles seem to match the type of offense that Curry believes will boost the Warriors.
“He’s like the exact opposite player of me which is kind of funny. I shot 16 three’s, he shot 1, he got to the FT line a lot, he’s dominating the paint, I’m dominating the outside, guys working around us, it has the potential to be really fun.”

This dynamic was on full display in Butler and Curry’s first game together on Saturday. The superstar duo led the Warriors in scoring, with Butler scoring 25 points in his debut and Curry scoring 34 points in the game. Together, they were the catalyst of a Warriors come-from-behind victory after the Dubs fell behind by 24 points in the 3rd quarter.
It was then that the formerly baby-faced assassin showed off some of his long-range skills, draining five shots from beyond the arc en route to a 24-point 4th quarter on his own. The dynamic that Stephen Curry mentioned between him and Jimmy Butler was prevalent in the Warriors’ comeback, with Butler, too, scoring a chunk of his points on Saturday by heading to the paint and the free-throw line.
Jimmy Butler responds to Stephen Curry’s thoughts on their pairing
After Saturday night’s victory, Stephen Curry wasn’t the only one hyped to watch the Warriors’ new-look roster compete. Jimmy Butler made his thoughts clear while responding to Curry’s comments on the opposing yet complementary playstyles of the Warriors’ two frontline stars. In fact, he seemed to be relishing the opportunity to play alongside the greatest shooter of all time.
Jimmy Butler on this Steph Curry comment: “Opposites attract in life. I don’t think I could be a better complement to him and vice versa. They’re not leaving him ever. Maybe two people…I get the easy job. I’m playing 1-on-1 or in space.” https://t.co/KyXgUAVELc pic.twitter.com/3jt7TBOmAT

Butler’s comments are nothing new for the Warriors, to be fair. The secret to success for their team has always been finding enough complementary stars and pieces around Curry that can capitalize on the gravity of his shooting and scoring ability. The 5x All-NBA star that Butler is personifies each of these traits in the best possible ways for the Dubs.
Jimmy Butler’s gritty and physical playstyle on both ends of the floor, and his ability to play with open space created by the threat of Curry’s shooting makes him a perfect fit for the Warriors. While the two have shared the floor in just one game so far, the Warriors need their complementary playstyles to lock in as the final stretch towards the playoffs kicks off after the All-Star Break.
