Carlos Alcaraz could script history at Indian Wells if he reaches all the way to the final and claims the title. He will enter the tournament as a two-time defending champion and another title will add his name beside Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the list of ATP players who have completed the three-peat in the Californian desert.
Alcaraz triumphed over Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in both the previous finals. He is the second seed in the tournament as World No.1 Jannik Sinner is serving a three-month doping ban. The Spaniard will kick start his campaign against a qualifier and ahead of his opening round match, Alcaraz made feelings known on his chance of joining Djokovic and Federer in the elite list.
Well, I know that this is something that only two players have done in history, I think. So I’m here to take, I mean, to take that pressure, let’s say. I will try not to think about it. I will try just to enjoy it. Because of this tournament, every time that I come here, I enjoy so much, you know, practicing, playing. Everything for me here is so easy. So all I’m thinking is to enjoy this tournament. I’m waiting for the whole year just to come back here.
Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference
Both Federer and Djokovic are the most successful players in the ATP 1000 Masters tournament, as they clinched five titles each. Djokovic last took home the title in 2016 and is all set to play at Indian Wells for the second time since 2019.
Carlos Alcaraz could face Novak Djokovic in Indian Wells quarterfinals
Novak Djokovic, the sixth seed at Indian Wells, received a bye. There’s a possibility of him meeting Nick Kyrgios in the second round if the Aussie beats Botic Van de Zandschulp in the first round.

If Djokovic progresses to the quarterfinals, he could once again set up a clash with Carlos Alcaraz. The 21-year-old had met the Serb in the Australian Open quarterfinals this season and suffered a four-set defeat.
Djokovic, after advancing to the semifinals, ended up withdrawing after the first set due to a hamstring injury. The 24-time Grand Slam champion holds a 5-3 head-to-head record against the four-time Major winner.
Djokovic had won their previous two meetings, in the Australian Open quarterfinals and in the Paris Olympics final. Alcaraz has already added a title to his trophy cabinet this year (Rotterdam Open), but Djokovic is still searching for his first trophy on the tour since his 2023 ATP Finals win.
