$211M star Paul George brutally booed by Philadelphia fans at WWE SmackDown event
76ers star man Paul George and fellow NBA stars did not revieve a great welcome at the WWE event in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia sports fans are the most devoted and intense in the country. During Friday night’s WWE Smackdown from the Philadelphia 76ers’ home arena, the Wells Fargo Center, the players got a reminder. When things aren’t going well, they can easily turn into the team’s harshest critics. This is exactly what happened on Friday when 76ers star Paul George attended alongside his teammates.
On Friday’s Smackdown broadcast, Paul George, Jared Butler, Adem Bona, and Guershon Yabusele got a personalized WWE championship belt with a 76ers motif. Although WWE invited them for a greet, they received a contrasting reception. George and Co. received immense boos from the fans present in the arena.
The WWE has frequently invited players from teams that play in the city they are in to appear on their program for years. However, the network did not expect that the city of Philly would have become tired after watching their stars perform poorly throughout the 2024-25 NBA season.

The 76ers have received a lot of national criticism this season after falling well short of some high expectations before the season began. The team’s 21-41 record this year is a result of both frequent injuries and uneven play.
There are rumors that Paul George will follow Joel Embiid‘s example. That is, by getting sidelined for the remainder of the season. Or it might just be because the squad is sitting last in the Eastern Conference. Nevertheless, the mood around the city is at an all-time low, and the recent treatment of the players on the WWE network was a clear example of it.
Sixers HC Nick Nurse provides Paul George injury update
After Thursday night’s game against the Boston Celtics, the Philadelphia 76ers have twenty matches remaining. The Sixers are without Tyrese Maxey, Paul George, or Joel Embiid. This has remained the case throughout the season. Notably, sources have reported that the team may shut down George in the first year of a 4-year, $212 million deal. However, Nick Nurse provided a take on this and George’s injury.
I haven’t discussed that with anybody… For me, the medical people tell me if they’re good. Then what one happened to him (George), I think, at the end of the third the other night he just wasn’t able to continue. So that kind of stuff happens too, and I just take around my directions from them.

In any event, Nurse and the Sixers expect George and Maxey to play as soon as they are well enough. George is averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists when healthy. He is shooting 35.8% from beyond the arc and 43% from the field. However, these numbers are a far-cry for a player with a huge contract. As such, PG wants to return to action as soon as possible for the 76ers.
