After spending five years at or around the bottom of the standings, the Detroit Pistons have made the playoffs. Also, they may potentially host a first-round matchup in the Motor City. That is, if they keep improving in the standings. However, not everyone is buying into the Pistons’ success, which is understandable. NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is one of them.

O’Neal is well-known for being rude to today’s stars. But a recent take of his could have been enough to get him fired from television. While complimenting the Pistons, O’Neal made a huge mistake. The former NBA player praised Chauncey Billups as the Pistons HC on the NBA on TNT show, whereas Billups coaches the Portland Trail Blazers.

O’Neal saved his blushes by stating that he does not watch the Pistons. However, the Pistons offered a great response via their official X account. They uploaded a photo of their X account with the caption ‘nothing new here.’ The photo had a disappointing O’Neal after the NBA Finals loss in 2004 to the Pistons. The pic had two clear messages: overlooking us in 2004 and overlooking us in 2025.

Earlier this week, O’Neal mocked the Pistons on a podcast. He called them dull and claimed he has no idea they were even above .500 in the season. In addition to not knowing who the coach was, he handed praise to Stewart. Although it isn’t a negative thing, it demonstrates his lack of knowledge. This season, Stewart has averaged a career-low 19 minutes per game. Also, he has fallen behind Jalen Duren, a more typical center.

Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley are historically poor on NBA on TNT’s ‘who he plays for’ game

Former NBA players Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley have been the main pillars of the NBA on the TNT show over the years. Ever since both stars retired, they joined the media industry as analysts. Interestingly, O’Neal and Barkley are known for their drama, fights, and comedy on the show. But what many fans don’t know is that they have poor knowledge of NBA players in the league season after season.

For years, O’Neal and Barkley have been poor on NBA on TNT’s famous game, ‘Who he plays for?’ Both stars made several mistakes in recognizing the players’ teams in their respective seasons. No wonder O’Neal’s making blunders on live TV recently.

In addition, he also made a huge mistake regarding the New Orleans Pelicans star, Zion Williamson. O’Neal called out Williamson for scoring just 20 points but forgot to acknowledge that the Pistons star had a triple-double on the day.

Shaquille O’Neal signs extension with TNT media, keeping NBA on TNT show intact for future

Shaquille O’Neal has signed a new deal with TNT, bringing the famous studio show “Inside the NBA” one step nearer to being entirely intact before it moves to ESPN. Front Office Sports announced Friday that O’Neal and TNT put pen to paper on a new long-term deal worth $15 million per year.

The news of O’Neal’s contract comes as “Inside the NBA” wraps out its final year on TNT. This is before moving to ESPN next season. TNT lost its NBA media rights in the league’s most recent media contract. That included Amazon and NBC joining ESPN in acquiring rights for the next 11 seasons.

The show, which stars O’Neal, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and presenter Ernie Johnson, has been a favorite of both fans and reviewers throughout its tenure. However, ESPN secured an agreement with TNT for licensing the show. Notably, Turner Sports plans to continue with production and air on ESPN and ABC.
