The New York Knicks took on the Detroit Pistons in Game 1 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs on Saturday. The Knicks won the crucial game at Madison Square Garden thanks to Jalen Brunson‘s 34 points and Karl-Anthony Towns‘ 23 points. Surprisingly, it was the Pistons’ star Malik Beasley who made headlines after the game concluded.

People know Beasley for his outspoken nature on and off the court; he often rattles opponents and their fan bases as well. That’s exactly what he did at the MSG on Saturday, but he was on the losing side of the game. On his way to the team bus, spectators spotted the hostile Knicks fans giving Beasley a sound beating, as per a viral video.

We don’t f**k with you here…Pick your hat up.

On the other hand, in a close game, Tom Thibodeau, who has recently faced a lot of criticism, demonstrated his coaching prowess by allowing Cameron Payne to play some crucial minutes.
NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson also praised Payne’s effort against the Pistons. Thibodeau’s decision somewhat changed the game for the Knicks.

The veteran was the driving force behind the fourth quarter comeback, scoring 14 points off the sidelines on 71.4% shooting from the field to repay the faith. The Knicks launched on a 21-0 run in the fourth quarter, which helped them win the game handily, even though the Pistons had done everything correctly up until that point and even held a lead.

This win surely puts Beasley and Co. in a tight spot, although it’s early in the series. However, the Knicks go into the upcoming Game 2 with a strong advantage.

Malik Beasley’s bold take regarding Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns backfired

Ahead of the Knicks-Pistons game, Pistons star Malik Beasley surely turned heads with his remarks regarding the Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns. The Pistons’ guard was questioned about facing KAT during a media session following training. But Malik Beasley made a daring declaration.

I’m not worried about KAT. I don’t think about KAT..he is the least of my worries.

It’s safe to say that it was the Knicks star who had the last laugh on Beasley and his Pistons side. KAT and Co. put Beasley’s words to bed by winning at Madison Square Garden and going 1-0 up in the first round of the Playoff series.

Jalen Brunson raved about his star defender OG Anunoby’s performance against the Pistons

On the MSG court, the New York Knicks’ star defender OG Anunoby took on the most important job: guarding Pistons’ star Cade Cunningham. It’s safe to say that Anunoby stepped up for his side, keeping Cunningham quiet all game. This matchup particularly decided the game for the Knicks.

Cunningham is probably one of the best young players in the league, and stopping him made a huge difference for the Knicks. Notably, Knicks star Jalen Brunson had huge praise for Anunoby after the game.

I think he was great, the way OG played, it’s really tough to do that to a player like that and so it’s a lot of props to him and he stepped up to the challenge.

Jalen Brunson said

The Knicks will be hoping that Anunoby, who feels he should win the Defensive Player of the Year award, keeps putting on games like these going forward. However, the series still has a lot more games left.
