Anthony Edwards has moved ahead of Ja Morant in race to be Face of the NBA

The NBA is looking for the next face of its league. A player who qualifies to earn that title will need to be one of the better young players in the league, along with a dose of charisma. Some of the younger stars lining up to earn that monicker are Anthony Edwards, Ja Morant and Luka Doncic.

All three are young, have established themselves as premier basketball players, and also have a swagger about them. Doncic is in the biggest market of them all since his blockbuster move to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Doncic has swagger and is slowly earning the moniker of the smiling assassin. He smiles at his opponents and drops 30-40 points on them. Ja Morant can also score a lot of points, but adds his high-flying dunks and acrobatic finishes, which excite basketball fans.

Then there is Anthony Edwards, who has continuously made his case to be the next Face of the NBA. The Minnesota Timberwolves star has elevated his game to the point where some, such as Colin Cowherd, believe he is already a step ahead of Morant.

Every time I watch Ant, every year, I see a better player. And I don’t with Ja Morant. I can see the work Ant puts into his game, and I can see what the staff, the work they put into Ant in the offense.

Colin Cowherd said

He believes Anthony Edwards has consistently improved his play, which this season has helped the Timberwolves reach a playoff spot. That improvement pushes aside the criticism he received earlier in the year. This also tells Cowherd that the Timberwolves staff are doing their part to help him improve.

Anthony Edwards can get ahead of everyone if Wolves have excellent playoff run

Anthony Edwards and his Minnesota Timberwolves are currently battling Luka Doncic’s Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs. They won game 1 comfortably, but lost Game 2 earlier today. However, some believe that was because the Wolves did not play well.

If Edwards and his teammates play better when they return home for the next two games, they could enhance their chances of winning this series. Beat the Lakers, and the 23-year-old would have defeated Doncic and LeBron James in one go.

He has already defeated Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets last season after sweeping his favorite player, Kevin Durant‘s Phoenix Suns. If the Wolves move on and win the second round, Edwards will get a major push to be the next Face of the NBA. By then, he would have defeated all his rivals.

He might not readily accept the moniker, especially with how the media tends to over-scrutinize every move. His off-court problems are only going to make matters worse. But he is trying to get a handle on them and even is handling the trolls with a smile on his face.

Ja Morant is losing ground due to various reasons

Ja Morant is not having a great season so far. The Memphis Grizzlies were considered a dark horse entering this season. They gave glimpses of that after running as high as second in the West. That form took a turn for the worse after the All-Star break, which led head coach Taylor Jenkins to lose his job.

Earlier today, the Grizzlies lost the second of their 1st round playoff games to the Oklahoma City Thunder. They lost the first game by a colossal 51 points. Morant had claimed that they should win game 2 to even the series.

But now, they are staring at an early exit. Last season, while he was out injured, the 25-year-old understood he was losing the battle to Anthony Edwards. This season, many expected him to lead his team. However, his numbers declined, and his team has not delivered on their promise.
