When Stewart Haas Racing announced, they are going to cease its operations at the end of 2024 season, one of the biggest NASCAR personalities that came into market was Rodney Childers. The 2014 championship winning crew chief was the back bone of Kevin Harvick and SHR’s success for many years. Spire Motorsports was able sign Childers in a multi-year deal, for the No:7 team.

They paired the veteran with Justin Haley, the new No:7 Chevy driver and expected an impressive season. Things didn’t go as planned and now to the shock of many in the racing community SHR has announced they have partner ways with Rodney Childers during the Easter break. The veteran has released a statement on the exit via X admitting some things don’t go planed.

I know this is a shock. But also know that not everything works out perfect all the time. That’s how life works. This was just one of those things that just wasn’t working for either of us… I appreciate my time at Spire, working with JH and the entire 7 team. We did a lot of good that is yet to be seen, and I wish them the best in the future.

Rodney Childers wrote on X.

He then went onto to thank the people he worked with at Spire including his old boss, Rick Hendrick. Spire has an alliance with Hendrick Motorsports, that helps them to field solid cars. Childers also thanked the NASCAR officials, and well the race fans that always backed him, even when his drivers failed to be productive on the track.

Also want to say thank you to everyone at Chevrolet, Mr. H and everyone at Hendrick Motorsports for my time working with them again. It was a pleasure. Thank you to NASCAR, the officials, and most importantly the fans for your support.

Rodney Childers thanked his colleges.

He is going to take some time off from the racing scene after nine races with Haley who is P23 in the championship table with an average finish outside the top-20, and a best finish of P10. Childers wants to focus on his personal life before exploring more options about his future with the help of God.

For me, I’m going to take a little time. Focus on the important things like my family and friends. And honestly just see what the racing world holds for me next. I know the man above will lead me in a direction that is best for me.

Rodney Childers added.

Jeff Dickerson, the co-owner of Spire Motorsports, shared his thoughts on Childers’ exit and revealed what made them take the decision. Having the right combination of talent is just as important as the results on track. As we move in a new direction it is not lost on us that Rodney has been an invaluable asset to our organization, as he will continue to be for others in this sport.

Jeff Dickerson said via a statement.

The comments from Jeff Dickerson shows the team didn’t yield the results they expected when they signed the multi-year deal with Childers. It will be interesting to see who will get the new No:7 Crew chief role and how the exit is going to affect the team.
