Pittsburgh Pirates star Andrew McCutchen did not hold back on Wednesday. The veteran MLB star clapped back at a critic following his and his team’s slow start to the 2025 season.
The Pirates have once again endured a poor start to the season. The National League Central side was bottom of the standings before the game against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. Their slow start to the new campaign have once again displeased the fans.
Pirates broadcaster David Todd was among those who criticized the performance of the team. In a post on X, Todd claimed that McCutchen should not be the ‘priority’ of the team if there are some other players available. He also claimed that the season was already ‘over’ for the team in April.
Cutch deserves all the love he gets, but this #Pirates season is basically already over. Cutch has a 92 wRC+ so far this season & is a below-average OF at this point. It’s not like they are sitting Juan Soto when he doesn’t play. Play him, don’t play him, he shouldn’t be a priority if there is any other player that they can give ABs & try develop.

Pirates broadcaster takes jibe at team’s GM and owner after Andrew McCutchen hits back at him
Broadcaster David Todd is among the Pittsburgh Pirates fans who are not happy with the performances of team. After Andrew McCutchen hit back at him for his take regarding him, Todd took a jibe at the team’s General Manager, Ben Cherington and team owner Bob Nutting.

In another tweet on X, Todd pointed out the record of the team in Cherington’s reign as the GM and expressed that his setup is not working for the franchise.
Nope, not over in April. But unfortunately the current GM (and owner) is 303-429, .414% in his tenure & the team has never finished better than 10 games under .500 or w/in 15 games of first place in the NLC while he’s been on the job since 2020. So it doesn’t seem like the current setup is working.

The Pirates are yet to finish with a positive record under the reign of GM Cherington. In the past five seasons, the team has collected over 100 losses twice, finishing with a 61-101 record in 2021 and 62-100 record in 2022.
Andrew McCutchen and the Pirates looking to sweep LA Angels
After winning 3-0 on Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates won the series against the Los Angeles Angels, as they had won 9-3 on Tuesday, which included a 3-run home run from Andrew McCutchen. Now they will be hoping to sweep the Angels.

McCutchen and his teammates entered the game on Tuesday against the Angels after getting swept by the Cleveland Guardians. Before that, they took three games in the four-game series against the Washington Nationals.
The game on Wednesday was the first shutout of the team this season. Pitcher Andrew Heaney‘s 6-inning showing proved too much for the Angels’ offense. It also turned out to be the first road series win of the Pirates this year.
