Seven times NASCAR Cup Series champion Richard Petty is the first real superstar racer stock car racing has produced and holds some racing record that will never be broken. His 200 Cup race win is the most illustrious one of them. RFK Racing’s 2012 championship winning owner/driver Brad Keselowski is one of the many that sees Petty as the GOAT.

In a recent interview with NBC Sports, the No:6 Ford driver shared his thoughts on Richard Petty, who he accompanied to Washington, D.C. to meet with congressmembers in the National Motorsports Coalition. Brad Keselowski sees him as the greatest race car ever lived and asserted that alongside the win, his broader persona is the reason for his argument.

I feel that Richard Petty is the greatest race car driver that ever lived. The reason why I feel that way is broader than just his persona, which is, I think, it’s pretty cool. It’s broader than his 200 wins. I think it connects back to something that makes racing very unique compared to other sports.

Brad Keselowski told Dustin Long of NBC Sports.

He then went onto further explain the reasons for the selection of Petty from the 150-year motorsports history, by highlighting the dangerous conditions the Hall of Famer raced in. Keselowski pointed out that some of the elite level contemporaries of Petty lost their life or career due to massive incidents in these years showing how tough it was for the legend to race at top speed.

It’s the aspect of he raced in an era where the contemporaries he had that at least could win or were top-level drivers would, candidly, not make it out every year…

Brad Keselowski said.

The RFK driver then highlighted how Petty has come close to potentially dangerous wrecks over the years. He listed Darlington and Daytona as two incidents he barely survived. But none of these close calls slowed him down, as he kept on racing and kept on winning.

He himself multiple times barely made it out of big crashes. He had the one in Darlington, the couple in Daytona and not only did he survive those, but he kept racing. And he didn’t just keep racing. He kept winning.

Brad Keselowski added.

Brad Keselowski shared his thoughts on his poor 2025 performance

The 2025 NASCAR Cup season so far hasn’t been good for the veteran, as he hasn’t been able to produce any races that shows signs of them being capable of winning races. He finished outside the top-25 in six of the nine races this year and the best finishes he had was just a P11.

Talking about the unimpressive streak, he pointed out that his team has went through a lot of changes recently but is yet to recognize the step forward. He is hopeful that they can identify the factor that will get them two steps ahead sooner than later.

Our company went through a lot of changes; my team went through a lot of changes. We haven’t recognized the step forward. Hopefully, soon we’ll recognize the two steps forward with all the changes we made, but we definitely took a step backward in the process.

Brad Keselowski said.

The comment from Keselowski shows, he understands the whole RFK team is on a tough spot and needs to bounce back too soon to get the season back on track. It will be interesting to see how long it will take them to do it.
