Novak Djokovic has reached the twilight of his career and will hang up his racket, if not in the near future.

But does the 37-year-old have anything left to prove to the tennis world after achieving almost everything there is to achieve? Republican congresswoman Claudia Tenney certainly doesn’t think so as for her, the 24-time Grand Slam champion is the best.

@DjokerNole doesn’t have to prove anything more to me. He’s already the greatest tennis player of all time and in my opinion, the best professional athlete of all time.Claudia Tenney wrote on X

Djokovic is stuck on 99 ATP titles, last winning at the Paris Olympics, where he lifted his career’s first gold medal with a straight-set victory over Carlos Alcaraz. So far in the season, the 37-year-old has played seven tournaments, reaching just one final. His last Grand Slam title came at the 2023 US Open and since then, he progressed to just one Major final, at the 2024 Wimbledon, where he suffered a straight-set defeat to the three-time Grand Slam champion.

Djokovic, when asked about his grandfather during the Iguales podcast of the Madrid Open, said his grandfather often used to peel the apples with his knife and when he too does the same, he feels a spiritual connection with his grandfather.

I mean, we have those…what do you call them… the rollers that are easier. But I prefer this [with the knife] Because it’s just as you say, it connects me to him, to the memory of him, and the memory of us together in our time and you know, it just brings me peace, sadness as well, but also happiness at the same time.Novak Djokovic said

When the host joked that his coach Andy Murray wouldn’t be a fan of peeling apples with the knife as there’s a possibility of cutting his finger off, Djokovic said he believes nothing bad will happen because his grandfather is protecting him. Djokovic was answering these questions while peeling an apple during the podcast.

Prior to the Miami Open, Djokovic registered three consecutive defeats. At the Australian Open, he gave a walkover to Alexander Zverev in the semifinals after losing the first set because of an injury.

Then in the Qatar Open, he succumbed to a straight-set defeat to Matteo Berrettini, before he fell in three sets against Botic van de Zandschulp at Indian Wells. Djokovic is 12-7 on the season and will continue his hunt for the 41st Masters 1000 title at the Italian Open.

Following Rome, Djokovic will start his bid for the historic 25 Grand Slam title at the French Open, where he has emerged victorious on three occasions, including in 2023- the year, Djokovic came close to clinching the Calendar Grand Slam but Carlos Alcaraz ruined that plan with a five-set victorty in the Wimbledon final. Last year at the Italian Open, Djokovic lost to Alejandro Tabilo in the third round.

Novak Djokovic is just a shadow of his former self. He is reaching finals, but it has now become quite rare.

Recently in the ongoing Madrid Open, he fell 6-3, 6-4 against Matteo Arnaldi in his opening round. It was his third consecutive defeat as prior to the Masters 1000 tournament in the Spanish capital, the Serb got knocked out of the opening round of the Monte Carlo Masters and was unsuccessful in beating Jakub Mensik in the Miami Open final.

But does the 37-year-old have anything left to prove to the tennis world after achieving almost everything there is to achieve? Republican congresswoman Claudia Tenney certainly doesn’t think so as for her, the 24-time Grand Slam champion is the best.
