Alexander Bublik had an unusual moment during his match against Jakub Mensik at the Madrid Open. While sitting on the bench, he started talking to the umpire. Bublik was surprised by how well Mensik played, even though he isn’t ranked in the top 10.
During the chat, Bublik began ranting about the past in tennis and even used some strong language. After that, he didn’t win another game. Mensik won the match 6-3, 6-2 and moved into the quarter-finals.
Remember when tennis was easy? Five years ago, it was super easy to play tennis. You had a bunch of random people in the Top 50, barely moving. Now this guy [Mensik] is not even Top 10. The **** is that?
Jakub Mensik said during the changeover at the Madrid Open
Bublik has been known for his wild behavior in Madrid. In an earlier match, he sat down and refused to play after a line call. Still, he came back to win and upset defending champ Andrey Rublev. He also played games with the crowd and gave out gifts.

Jakub Mensik overcomes Alexander Bublik at Madrid Open
Young tennis star Jakub Mensik kept his winning run going at the Mutua Madrid Open. On Tuesday, he earned his ninth straight win at an ATP Masters 1000 event. The 19-year-old beat Alexander Bublik 6-3, 6-2 in a strong performance.

Mensik saved four break points during a key moment in the second set. That hold gave him a 4-2 lead. He went on to win the match in just 56 minutes. This is his third Masters 1000 quarter-final, and his first on clay.
He is now the fifth teenager to reach the quarter-finals in Madrid. With this win, Mensik has moved up to No. 20 in the live rankings. His rise has been fast since his debut at the Next Gen ATP Finals last year.
Mensik has a strong record this season against top players. He is 6-1 against Top 20 opponents in 2025. He is also seventh in the race to the ATP Finals in Turin. In the next round, he will face either Alexander Zverev or Francisco Cerundolo.
Jakub Mensik continues to build on Miami success
Rising star Jakub Mensik made big news in Miami last month. He became the fifth-youngest player to win an ATP Masters 1000 title. Now, just four weeks later, he is in great form again. The young Czech has reached the fourth round of the Mutua Madrid Open.

Mensik beat World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the Miami final. That win moved him up to No. 24 in the ATP rankings. In Madrid, he defeated Ethan Quin, Ben Shelton, and Alexander Bublik.
The 19-year-old’s quick rise has surprised many people. But Mensik himself expected to do well. He says his goals are coming true faster than he thought. Last year, he reached the Doha final and made good runs at the US Open and Shanghai.
After his Miami win, some see Mensik as a serious threat in Madrid. Djokovic and Alcaraz are both out. Still, Mensik says he is not thinking about being a favorite. He wants to stay focused and keep improving.
