Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya and batter Suryakumar Yadav emphasized upon the importance of staying ‘humble’ and ‘grounded’, after their 6th consecutive victory of the 2025 IPL season. The five-time IPL winners, with a win over Rajasthan Royals, climbed to the top of the IPL table.

MI claimed a dominating 100 run-victory over RR, bowling out the 2008 IPL champions in just 16.1 overs, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Batting first, MI posted a massive total of 217 runs, thanks to a brillaint 116-run partnership between openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. It was followed by some good batting by Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, as they ended the match with identical scores of 48.

The MI pace attack virtually killed off the contest in the powerplay of RR’s chase. The home side was reduced to 62/5 in the first six overs of the match, with Deepak Chahar dismissing teenage IPL sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi for a duck in the very first over. RR were ultimately bowled out for 117 runs, as Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult returned with impressive figures of 2/15 and 3/28, respectively.

For MI, the win resulted in the team moving to the top of the 2025 IPL table, with seven wins in 11 matches this season. It also marks a remarkable comeback for the five-time IPL winners, who had initially lost four out of their first five matches. RR on the other hand, became the second team after CSK to be knocked out of the 2025 IPL play-offs race, having suffered their eighth defeat in 11 matches till now.

Mumbai kicked-off their six-match winning streak against DC, which was followed by wins against SRH, CSK and LSG. MI’s comeback has prompted fans to predict that it could be the year for Hardik Pandya and Co. However, the Mumbai Indians’ skipper, who had previously faced backlash after having replaced Rohit Sharma, noted his critical stance on the team’s display, despite their recent successes.

As a group, we want everyone to chip in… And Surya [Suryakumar Yadav] mentioned, stay humble, play good, disciplined cricket, respect the sport, and I think that’s why the cricket gods are rewarding us.

The 31-year-old noted that he wants everyone in the team to contribute to their victory, while even highlighting the importance of staying humble, and disciplined, throughout the rest of the season. Not just Pandya, but Suryakumar Yadav also felt the same about his side. The Indian T20I skipper stated that the routine before every match mattered the most, in their journey to the top of the IPL playoffs.

The process and routines we follow before the game, on match days, I think all of that really matters, and we are really enjoying it. It feels really, really good, but we still stay humble and keep moving forward.

Hardik Pandya interestingly added that MI have gone back to playing simple cricket this season, something that has worked out in their favor. The Mumbai-based franchise will be hoping to become the first team that makes it through to the play-offs, when they take on Gujarat Titans next, on 6 April, at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rahul Dravid, who fractured his left leg ahead of the 2025 IPL season, has recently started to walk with straps around his leg, in a sigh relief to fans. RR shared a video of Dravid hugging Pandya, after a cheerful conversation. Rahul Dravid and Hardik Pandya do share a special bond, with the former India coach having helped the 31-year-old script a memorable comeback to form.

Later on, the video also captured Hardik Pandya, in an insightful conversation with Rajasthan Royals support staff member Vikram Rathour, who last served as India’s batting coach. Both Dravid and Rathour departed the Indian team at the end of the 2024 World Cup.
