The Truck Series race at Texas was an action-packed event for fans on Friday. However, things did not go well for Niece Motorsports’ Kaden Honeycutt. Honeycutt’s race came to an early end after he got involved in a wreck triggered by Gio Ruggiero.

During the first stage of the race, Ruggiero seemed to be struggling on-track. The 18-year-old initially went on the grass on the infield and lost control, albeit he managed to recover. Though, a few laps later, he made the same mistake. This time, the No. 17 truck driver was not as lucky.

He completely lost control of the truck as it went sideways back on-track. As this unfolded, Kaden Honeycutt got caught up in the wreck, with Brandon Jones also losing out. Both drivers were forced to retire from the race, alongside Gio Ruggiero.

Kaden Honeycutt was left fuming following the incident. He did not hold back from using some profane language on camera. The Niece Motorsports’ driver was without words to describe the wreck as Ruggiero made two mistakes in a row. It was even more disappointing since Honeycutt’s race came to an end during the first stage itself.

I wish I’m uh – I don’t know what to say. That kid [Gio Ruggiero] did it one time in the first stage… and he clipped the grass and he learned his lesson. Like, I don’t understand what we’re doing… there’s 167 laps in this race, and we’re all struggling for handling, every single one of us.

Kaden Honeycutt told FOX Sports.

Moreover, the No. 45 truck driver asserted that Gio Ruggiero has much more awareness than what he showed in Texas. Ruggiero’s incident not only ruined his own weekend, but destroyed the home weekend for Honeycutt who was taking his tenth attempt at the race. Afterall, there is nothing worse for a driver than to retire from their home race for no fault of their own.

I don’t understand it. That kid has way more awareness than that, and I expect more. So, I’m pissed because this is my home race. Like, this is our 10th year as a company and we got wrecked out… of a kid hitting the grass in the infield and destroying a race truck.

Kaden Honeycutt was not the only driver who was unhappy with Gio Ruggiero post-race. Brandon Jones who competes part-time in the Truck Series with Tricon Garage also expressed his frustration. Jones went as far as claiming that his stint in the Truck Series was becoming a waste of time.

The wreck ruined Brandon Jones’ chances of getting a better understanding of the track before the Xfinity Series race the next day. He further highlighted that he was getting tired of seeing ‘dumb’ moves made in the field, particularly when a driver decides to go on the grass.

Man, these races are becoming a big waste of time. I really wanted to come just to go win these races, and this was a really important one for me this weekend because now we’ve rained everything out and I wanted laps for tomorrow before the Xfinity race… It’s just time and time again I keep seeing dumb moves, right? Like that was pretty rookie move I think to drive into the grass like that.

Brandon Jones told Pockrass

Certainly, Gio Ruggiero will have to go back and think about what has happened. The 18-year-old not only ended his own race, but destroyed the weekends of two other drivers in the field. Such a disaster by a silly mistake is not acceptable in the premier truck racing championship. Although, it is likely that Kaden Honeycutt and Brandon Jones will soon move on from this incident.
