Casper Ruud gave a heartfelt message to his fiancée, Maria Galligani, after winning the Madrid Open. He beat Jack Draper in a close match, winning 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. This was Ruud’s first Masters 1000 title and the biggest win of his career. He had lost in several major finals before this.

In the past, Ruud was defeated in two Masters finals and three Grand Slam finals. He also lost at the ATP Finals in 2022. This win in Madrid broke that unlucky streak. Earlier in the week, Ruud spoke openly about dealing with mental health challenges, making this win even more meaningful.

Yeah it’s been incredible. I owe a lot of my success to all my closest ones. My family. My friends. My fiancée Maria. We got engaged last year so she’s been an incredible support for me over many years now. She came yesterday to come and support. Maybe that was the last little push I needed to get over the finish line. I’m really happy and it’s great I’m surrounded by amazing people. I’m a really lucky guy.

Casper Ruud said in the Madrid Open post-match ceremony

After the final, Ruud thanked his loved ones, especially Galligani, who had flown in to support him. The couple has been together since 2018 and got engaged in November 2024. Ruud once shared online, “Can’t wait to marry you,” showing how close they are.

Ruud earned €985,030 in prize money with this win. He has now made over $23 million in his career. He will move up to No. 7 in the world rankings. Next, he will play at the Italian Open, though his matches will start later in the week since he is a seeded player.

Casper Ruud wins first Masters 1000 title

World No.7 Casper Ruud showed great determination on Sunday to win the Mutua Madrid Open. He stayed calm under pressure and won his first ATP Masters 1000 title by beating Jack Draper 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. This was Ruud’s third Masters 1000 final, but the first time he won a set — and the match.

The victory was a big moment for Ruud and for Norway. He became the first Norwegian to win a Masters 1000 event. The match lasted two hours and 29 minutes. Ruud held strong against Draper, who plays with a powerful left-handed game.

This win adds to Ruud’s growing career. He now has 13 ATP Tour titles and has reached three Grand Slam finals. In Madrid, he defeated three Top 10 players — Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev, and Jack Draper — a rare achievement for him.

Ruud had a slow start to 2025 and recently fell out of the Top 10. But this win turned things around. His record for the season is now 21 wins and six losses. He will rise to No. 7 in the world and move to fifth in the race to the ATP Finals in Turin.

Casper Ruud and Jack Draper surge in the ATP race ranking

Draper rose from fourth to second place in the race by reaching the final. He passed Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner. This is his best chance so far to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals. He is now only 450 points behind Carlos Alcaraz, who is in first place.

Ruud made the biggest jump. He began the tournament ranked 24th in the Live Race. Before Madrid, he hadn’t gone past the quarter-finals in any event since early February. But after earning 1,000 points with his win, he jumped 19 spots to fifth place.

Other players are also chasing a spot in Turin. Jakub Mensik is now eighth and hopes to qualify for the first time. Francisco Cerundolo moved to ninth after reaching the semi-finals in Madrid. He beat Mensik in the quarter-finals and is now just 15 points behind him.
