Drew McIntyre names WrestleMania show-stealer as the favorite match of his career

It comes as no surprise the match Drew McIntyre has singled out as the favorite of his career. He's had countless top-notch battles over the years.

Drew McIntyre has had a fairly successful career since his return to WWE in 2017. It’s been almost eight years from that point on, and the Scot has seen it all. Back in 2020, he even became the only Scottish WWE Champion in the company’s history. It’s a pity it had to be behind closed doors due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 39-year-old was a guest on Pub Darts during the WrestleMania weekend in Las Vegas. While playing darts, the Ayr-born wrestler reflected on his triple threat match against Sheamus and Gunther at WrestleMania 39. The Chosen One said that it was probably his favorite match ever. McIntyre and his Irish wrestling soulmate go back in time.

Getting the chance to maul each other at the grandest stage was something the Scot would never forget. Though neither man could dethrone the then-Intercontinental Champion Gunther, they were trading haymakers. One of McIntyre’s most memorable matches was against CM Punk, which was a bloodbath inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood 2024.

It’s kind of fascinating that The Scottish Psychopath doesn’t rate it at the tippy-top in the catalogue of his favorite matches. He recently capped off a successful WrestleMania season. Taking on a towering Puerto Rican in Damian Priest was never going to be a cakewalk. They destroyed each other in a Sin City street fight at Allegiant Stadium. McIntyre did come fully prepared and never allowed The Street King to get under his skin.

Could Drew McIntyre capture the US Championship at WWE Backlash?

This Saturday, Drew McIntyre will compete in a Fatal 4-Way match at Backlash. It’ll see the US Champion Jacob Fatu defending his title against Damian Priest, LA Knight, and of course the Scot. It could’ve easily been a one-on-one affair between Fatu and McIntyre, but there’s more than meets the eye. The Scottish Warrior is reportedly going to take some time off from WWE to go work on a major Hollywood project he’s lined up for.

WWE would definitely want to preclude McIntyre from eating the pinfall, which is why there are two more contenders at Backlash. A recent report from WrestleVotes also noted that the former WWE Champion would soon be reinstated into the world title picture. A potential match against John Cena down the line is something that the fans would want to see.

Having wrestled inside the Elimination Chamber this year, Cena and McIntyre couldn’t get the opportunity to mix it up. Since the Scot was the first man out, the fans were up in arms. His booking since leaving CM Punk in the dirt has been all over the place. But there’s still time to right those wrongs, and the WWE Universe is very hopeful of a windfall going McIntyre’s way.

Drew McIntyre’s WrestleMania week advisory for fans should be a perennial thing

Before competing at WrestleMania in Las Vegas, Drew McIntyre listed some do’s and don’ts for the fans attending the two-night wrestling spectacle. The Scot asked the people to not be disrespectful towards the wrestlers and avoid getting in their way if they’re scurrying. The former WWE Champion underscored that it’s the busiest work week for the wrestlers, and they’re usually in a hurry to attend fan ops and meet-and-greets.

McIntyre also asked everyone to use deodorants and support independent wrestling. Coming to what the fans shouldn’t do, The Chosen One advised them against hanging around the airport with a ton of merchandise for the wrestlers to sign. The Triple Crown champ also told people to stay away from the hotels where the wrestlers are staying with their families. It’s their home for the weekend, and they deserve some privacy, added McIntyre.

He also asked some of them out there to not interrupt the superstars if they’re in the middle of a conversation, let’s say with their families and friends. Lastly, McIntyre asked the fans to never call out wrestlers with their government names in public. His coworker and great rival, Randy Orton, also approved of everything the Scot said.
