People may not want to admit it, but a crack is already forming in the Cleveland Browns camp. It began with Dillon Gabriel taking initial snaps over much-discussed Shedeur Sanders.

Browns insider revealed a thought-provoking insight after two days of rookie training drills. In the recent segment of ESPN Cleveland, Tony Grossi shared his two cents on the rookie quarterbacks so far.

From Grossi’s point of view, Gabriel performed better than Sanders.

I thought Dillon Gabriel—both days—looked a little bit better. He throws a tight spiral, throws a beautiful ball. Better arm strength than [Sanders], I thought. [But that] doesn’t mean Shedeur Sanders is a bust or anything. It’s just that the other guy looks better.

Tony Grossi answered when asked who looked better, Gabriel or Sanders, during minicamp

The only negative Grossi presented about Gabriel was his height. NFL teams prefer quarterbacks who are 6 feet 2 or above. Gabriel is only 5 feet 11, whereas Sanders stands at 6 feet 1. But that doesn’t mean NFL teams have never employed shorter quarterbacks. Both Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young and Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray are 5 feet 11.

Grossi’s words on Shedeur Sanders didn’t sit well with social media

Tony Grossi’s assessment differs from some of the reports that popped up on X after day one of the camp. ESPN Cleveland writer Brad Stainbrook kept Sanders ahead of Gabriel. Several videos showcasing the former Colorado quarterback throwing deep dimes were proof enough to refute Grossi’s claims.

Yes, it’s just the first day of rookie minicamp — but Shedeur Sanders looked sharper than Dillon Gabriel. This is only the beginning. The competition is real, and it’s going to be one of the stories of the season.

Brad Stainbrook wrote

Naturally, fans of Sanders were unhappy with Grossi on X after his interview.

Gabriel should be ahead of Sanders on paper, as he was drafted two rounds before the 23-year-old. However, people often forget that Sanders, for the longest time, was a first-round—top 10 prospect. It’s well established that he didn’t slide in the draft because of his skills or arm talent. The NFL teams simply didn’t appreciate his attitude.

While Grossi sided with Gabriel after just a couple of days of 7-on-7s in the training camp, the Athletic’s Zac Jackson thought Sanders was the better.

In just throwing the ball, it’s not close. Shedeur Sanders. It’s not close… I’m impressed with the way Shedeur threw the ball, like it jumps off his hands and spins it. This is what an NFL quarterback is supposed to look like. In the realm of it, it’s Day 1, it’s step one.

Zac Jackson said on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show

Performance during the camps and the OTAs is important for rookies to get into the final 53-man roster. It’s difficult to predict who will get in, but one thing’s for sure: several stories will leak out from the Browns’ facility.
