NASCAR star Chase Briscoe had a decent outing at Kansas Speedway last weekend with Joe Gibbs Racing. The 30-year-old crossed the line in fourth place, marking his fourth top 5 finish of the season. Briscoe was happy with his recent string of results for JGR. The he surprisingly decided to hit back at his former boss Tony Stewart following the race.
Chase Briscoe raced for Tony Stewart’s Stewart-Haas Racing for four seasons before moving to JGR after the former ceased operations. His stint at SHR was not one that gave him confidence of being one of the best in the Cup Series. However, things have changed this season. Briscoe already has more top 5 finishes this season than he had in the entirety of last year.
Following the race, Chase Briscoe recalled the words of NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick, who had said that a driver can’t drive a ‘slow car fast.’ The 30-year-old insisted that this might’ve been the case during his time at Stewart-Haas. Every year at Kansas Speedway, Briscoe would struggle at the backend of the field.
This time around however, things were far different with Brisco feeling at home upfront. So much so, that he reckoned that maybe he wasn’t the problem afterall, hinting that his former team was likely just not quick enough.
Kevin Harvick says it all the time. You can’t drive a slow car fast. Every time we came to Kansas, I ran 25th to 30th. As soon as I got out [today], I said, ‘Well, I guess it maybe wasn’t me this whole time.’
Chase Briscoe said, as reported by Frontstretch.
Chase Briscoe not used to cars with winning potential
Briscoe did not just stop there with his clever digs at his former team and Tony Stewart. The JGR star was so relieved to finally have a good car to race in the Cup Series, that he did not hold back his true feelings over Stewart-Haas.

The 30-year-old pointed out that there used to be a time when he would simply be falling backwards every race, no matter how much he tried. Moreover, Chase Briscoe highlighted that he could only race a car as fast as it could go. Subsequently, Briscoe claimed that the potential of JGR machinery was something unbelievable compared to his older cars at SHR.
We just always go backwards every race, and you can only drive the car as fast as it’ll go. JGR’s cars’ potential is just unbelievable compared to what I’m used to.
Chase Briscoe said.
Usually, drivers and teams end their journey together on a positive note and leave no hard feelings behind. However, it seems that Chase Briscoe is relieved to be in a completely different environment.
Stewart-Haas was struggling before it decided to end its operations, and Briscoe’s comments highlight the inner issues he faced in the last few years. Now, the 30-year-old is much happier and has gained immense confidence in himself. This will further boost his performances, and he could soon be on his way to Victory Lane.
