Major Update on Cody Rhodes’ Heel Turn Ahead of His WWE Return
Cody Rhodes is the biggest babyface in WWE right now, but a heel turn for him has always been a path that has fascinated the fans.

The return of Cody Rhodes on SmackDown this week will become the first step towards enacting revenge against those who wronged him. Amid growing anticipation, fans have speculated what’s next for The American Nightmare.
A potential heel turn, especially after The Rock recently revealed that he initially pitched the idea for Rhodes to turn heel at Elimination Chamber remains something to look forward to. However, a major backstage report has shed new light on the situation. It appears the heel version will have to wait.
According to Fightful Select, aside from The Final Boss, there are currently no plans for Rhodes to turn heel in WWE. The company views him as a top-tier baby face and intends to continue presenting him as such. A heel turn at this stage wouldn’t be worthwhile from WWE’s perspective. However, it’s worth noting that The Great One was fully behind the idea and has already stated that a heel turn remains inevitable somewhere down the line.

Moreover, during The Pat McAfee Show after WrestleMania 41, The Rock revealed that he pitched the idea of Cody Rhodes joining The Final Boss and “selling his soul.” However, both Triple H and Rhodes himself felt it wasn’t the right move, given Rhodes’ peak popularity at the time. As a result, WWE chose to have John Cena take that darker path instead.
Cody Rhodes is no stranger to having a heel persona, as witnessed from his villainous arcs during his stints with Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. However, turning heel in the WWE, especially when he is one of the most beloved superstars right now remains a potential sabotage. Only the right storyline could propel The American Nightmare to consider a heel turn.
The Cenation Leader’s heel turn was a game-changing moment on the road to WrestleMania 41, and The Great One has openly taken credit for it. But if WWE is opposed to the idea of The Prodigal Son turning heel, then what lies ahead for Cody Rhodes? Since dropping his title to John Cena at The Show of Shows, Rhodes has remained relatively quiet. It will certainly be interesting to see what his next mission will be.
Cody Rhodes to compete at Money in the Bank 2025
Cody Rhodes has not appeared since WrestleMania 41, but The American Nightmare is too big a superstar to stay away from the WWE ring for long. With Money in the Bank scheduled next month at the Intuit Dome in LA, several reports suggest that WWE has already locked Rhodes in for the big event.

According to WrestleVotes, Triple H is planning a major match for The Prodigal Son at Money in the Bank 2025. While Rhodes’ opponent hasn’t been confirmed yet, big things are reportedly in store for him. It’s believed that Rhodes will pick up right where he left off and set his sights on John Cena’s Undisputed WWE Championship this summer.

It is believed that Rhodes will be John Cena’s final opponent in WWE, with a potential passing of the torch moment as he aims to capture the Undisputed WWE Title. However, if The American Nightmare returns sooner than expected, the storyline could become even more intriguing. Additionally, Rhodes may also compete in the Money in the Bank ladder match, adding another layer of excitement to his comeback.
Cody Rhodes and John Cena to square off in a Six-Man Tag Team match at Money in the Bank
The story between Cody Rhodes and John Cena is far from over, with the two expected to clash in several more matches in the coming months. According to PWInsider, Rhodes’ new rival, Travis Scott, is preparing for his in-ring debut later this year. It’s also been reported that WWE is planning a Six-Man Tag Team match at Money in the Bank featuring both Cena and Scott.

Considering this report and the rumors surrounding The Prodigal Son’s return, WWE might plan to include Rhodes in the upcoming six-man tag team match at Money in the Bank. Interestingly, John Cena is currently involved in a heated storyline with Randy Orton and R-Truth on SmackDown—both of whom are close friends of The American Nightmare.
There's a belief in WWE creative circles that Travis Scott will be available for Money In the Bank, and there have been pitches for him and John Cena teaming in either a tag match or 6-man tag of some sort.

Therefore, WWE could mix up the former AEW star in this battle, where he might join forces with Truth and Orton. But as Cena’s backup, WWE could bring back Travis Scott and a potential name like Drew McIntyre for a six-man tag match in Los Angeles next month.
