“It’s Almost Like He’s a Spaceship,” Andre Agassi Says Carlos Alcaraz Has an Edge Over Other Players on Clay
Out of 18 tour-level titles that Carlos Alcaraz has won in his career, eight of them have come on the clay court.

Carlos Alcaraz has established himself as one of the best players of his generation. The Spaniard is in his best form this clay season, losing just once in his last 15 matches. Former World No.1 Andre Agassi praised the four-time Grand Slam winner for the edge he has over other players on clay and grass courts.
Alcaraz is especially known for his fast-paced movements and athleticism on the court. His style of play works better on clay and grass courts. Last year, he claimed the French Open and Wimbledon Championship, and this year, he has continued with the form on clay and recently won the Monte Carlo Masters in style.
He was close to winning the Barcelona Open but lost the title to Holger Rune in the final. He’s currently in the semi-finals of the Italian Open, which is his first tournament after suffering an adductor muscle injury in Barcelona. He then faced Lorenzo Musetti for a place in his first Rome Masters final.
Apart from that, his achievements compared to his arch-rival Jannik Sinner have been very good. He has won four Grand Slams, two on grass and one on clay, while Sinner has three Grand Slams, all on the hard courts. Also, Alcaraz currently leads in their head-to-head record by 6-4, and they met thrice last year, with the Spaniard winning all.
Andre Agassi was asked during a conversation about who was the best player on clay and grass. The former Olympic champion revealed that players like Alex de Minaur and Tommy Paul are faster than Alcaraz on hard court, but the Spaniard is far better than they are on clay and grass surfaces. He told Tennis Channel:
I mean, you've got a Tommy Paul who's one of the fastest out there along with De Minaur and Alcaraz. And when you watch those guys move to grass court or you watch them move to clay, you can actually notice there's a diminish of confidence in their balance, in their movement. They can't quite do as much. But then you get to anything slippery, and it seems like Alcaraz's movement doesn't diminish nearly as much as anybody else. In contrast, Alcaraz carries it all, being able to maintain his devastating depth and spin. It's almost like he's a spaceship playing against normal airplanes.
Alcaraz is going to be the pole favorite to win the Wimbledon Championship this year. He has met seven-time champion Novak Djokovic twice in the final but has always come out on top. Sinner doesn’t have a good record there, and he exited in the quarter-finals of the tournament last year.
Carlos Alcaraz feeling great about being the second seed at the Roland Garros
Carlos Alcaraz is guaranteed to be the second seed at the 2025 Roland Garros. The Spaniard achieved that after beating Jack Draper 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the Italian Open. He currently has 8,240 points in the ATP rankings, while the former World No.2 Alexander Zverev dropped to No.3 after losing to Lorenzo Musetti and has no more than 8,085 points.
Alcaraz felt great about being the second seed at the French Open. He said:
I think it's great being second seed in Roland Garros, knowing that I'm going to not see Jannik before the final, if I reach it. I think it's great. It's something that I didn't think about, honestly.

If Alcaraz wins the Rome Masters, he’s expected to extend the gap over Zverev. However, he has 2,000 points to defend at the French Open as he’s the defending champion.
