The New York Knicks are heading to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. On Friday, they secured their spot with a dominant 119-81 Game 6 victory over the Boston Celtics, clinching the series in emphatic fashion. While the achievement marks a major milestone for the Knicks, it hasn’t gone over well with some Celtics fans—especially former Celtics star Paul Pierce.

Pierce was rooting for his side all along in this ongoing series and tipped the Celtics to win against the Knicks. However, the Knicks had other plans. It’s also important to note that the Celtics’ star Jayson Tatum suffered a season-ending injury, making the Celtics a man short in attack. Now, since they have been eliminated, Pierce made a bold take regarding the Indiana Pacers, the Knicks’ ECF Finals opponents.

Taking to Instagram Live, Pierce said:

Pacers gonna pop y’all, though–Y’all know that, right? Y’all know that the Pacers are gonna get y’all. So, I don’t even wanna hear all that. Yeah, y’all feeling good. Y’all beat an injured Celtics team.

It’s evident that Pierce is hurt by the Celtics’ elimination and now seeks revenge by rooting for the Pacers in the ECF Finals. As for the Celtics-Knicks Game 6 matchup, it was a genuine team effort: four Knicks scored more than 20 points, and six finished with double digits.

Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 21 points and 12 rebounds, Mikal Bridges scored 22, and OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson led the team with 23 points each. These numbers showcase their versatility in attack this season.

The Knicks outscored the Celtics 55-36, but rebounding was especially deadly as New York outperformed Boston in every way. The Knicks have looked a strong side all season. With the addition of KAT, they have gotten a huge boost for the quest of an NBA title. However, it won’t be easy as they face a huge task in the Pacers in the conference finals.

Paul Pierce on ‘visiting the New York streets’

Pierce is still involved in supporting the Celtics, the team he played for from 1998 to 2013. He won the 2008 title, was named to the All-NBA team four times, and was an All-Star ten times. However, this season has not been the best for the Celtics, who got knocked out by their archrivals, the New York Knicks.

Ahead of Game 6, Pierce made an intriguing revelation regarding the City of New York in general. This came alongside Kevin Garnett, another former NBA player. On the KG Certified Podcast, Paul Pierce said:

We can go in the Garden (MSG) and watch a game. I’m just not going to be walking the streets.

This showcases Pierce’s hatred towards the franchise and even the city in general. However, it is the Knicks that have had the last laugh on Pierce and the Celtics.

Joe Mazzulla gives the Knicks their fair share of credit after Game 6 defeat

It’s not common to see the Celtics losing, especially in recent years, with the team that they possess. Given that, this has not been their year in particular. The Knicks knocked them out after defeating the Celtics in Game 6 of the ECF Semifinals. Fairly, Celtics HC Joe Mazzulla gave them their flowers. After the game, Mazzulla said:

They outplayed us. They played better.

Under the leadership of Tom Thibodeau, the Knicks have been a championship contendor team for the past few seasons. They have now defeated the current East Supermen and advanced onto the first Eastern Conference Finals since the time of Bill Clinton. On Wednesday, they will play Game 1 against the Pacers, an opponent packed of speedsters this season.
