NBA fans mock Christian Braun’s reported $30,000,000 yearly extension figure

Fans of the Denver Nuggets were unaware of their good fortune when the team selected Christian Braun from Kansas with the 22nd overall choice in 2022. Now, there are concerns that he may have played himself out of the Nuggets’ price range. That is because he played a bigger role than anticipated during the team’s first-ever championship run, and his importance has grown dramatically thereafter.
Only a select number of the Nuggets’ players can sign a new deal this summer, including Braun. According to ESPN cap analyst Bobby Marks, the 24-year-old’s new contract will bring in at least $30 million a year. While the Nuggets fans are behind their young star, many NBA fans do not agree with this astronomical rise in his contract.

One of the main reasons is that next season, the Nuggets are expected to have a payroll in the top five. They aim to escape the second tax apron, which is a challenging endeavor that will need some drastic front office maneuvering (the next general manager’s identity is yet unknown). Given the team’s lack of draft picks, keeping Braun in Colorado should be a top priority, but it won’t be simple.
However, Braun’s extension puts many other Nuggets stars’ positions on the roster in jeopardy. One of them is Michael Porter Jr., who still has 2 seasons left on his contract. But with Braun’s contract extension, the Nuggets would surely have to move him to another team to avoid any tax issues.
A trade for Jamal Murray might be considered by the front office, but it might be too detrimental to the club. The Nuggets must overcome numerous obstacles this summer to secure Braun’s long-term retention. This may be one of the reasons that many NBA fans are not yet sold on the Christian Braun extension news.
Fans left furious after coming across the Christian Braun contract extension reports
Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report recently shared his thoughts on Braun’s possible extension, along with the other 2022 first-round selections. The 24-year-old is expected to accept a four-year, $94 million contract offer from Denver, which would begin with the 2026–2027 campaign. This has not gone well with the NBA community, by the looks of it.
Many NBA fans have taken to various social media apps and sites to put forward their frustrations regarding the news around Christian Braun’s contract numbers. One fan termed the deal as an overpay after coming across Braun’s contract numbers. The fan wrote on X, “as much as i like him and his fit on the nuggets, 30Ms is HELLAOVERPAY”

Braun shot 58% from the field and 39.7% from three-point range while averaging a career-high 15.4 points (up from 7.3 points per game in 2023–24), 5.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. There is no doubt about Braun’s capabilities as a Nuggets player, but offering a max-out contract to a role player does not seem prudent.
Christian Braun makes his feelings clear on the Nuggets’ recent elimination from the NBA playoffs
Christian Braun’s Denver Nuggets have missed the Western Conference finals in his two subsequent seasons as a professional basketball player, despite earning an NBA championship in his first year. He started and played 33 minutes in the elimination game, scoring 19 points on 7 of 14 shooting (2 of 9 from 3), four rebounds, three assists, and two turnovers. After getting eliminated, Braun kept it real in the post-match presser.
No excuses about what happened or it could have been this, could have been that. We lost. They were a better team and that’s how it was.
Christian Braun said
Aaron Gordon ended with eight points and 11 rebounds in 25 minutes despite suffering a hamstring injury during Thursday’s Game 6 triumph in Denver. Nevertheless, the Nuggets now have an important offseason ahead of them to get stronger for the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season.
